Ukraine War Thread update for the week of August 6 through August 12 (Days 164 to 170):

Despite NATO's continued reticence to give Ukraine longer range ATACMS missiles, Ukraine continues to find new people who have yet to hear the good news of our lord and savior Saint HIMARS. Their campaign of booms visited ammo depots, field bases, bridges, artillery, SAM batteries, trains (with the help of some friends), command posts, Crimea, air bases, likely a meeting of the great muckamucks of the DNR...and cows? Russia responds with all kinds of cope because even their missiles are scared to leave safety. Of course, I'd be scared too if I were subject to surprise ass blasting mayhem.

The incident at the Saki air base made our week (and massively bumped the kill totals). I explained how Ukraine was decommissioning so many Russian tanks in my best tech writer doublespeak while DrEMHmrk2 had a thought on dealing with those pesky trains. I also sacrificed a few precious brain cells reading through the drivel in The Maneuverist.

BC wrote up a small tourism advert for lovely Belarus, and a couple Belarussians were punished for a minor protest. Tracianne dreamed of a world where we gave up fair value in a Griner trade.

Alongside Twardies from Poland, M113s from across NATO, and promises to train pilots on the F-16 from Congress, the US sent some up-armored farming equipment. At least, I think it's farming equipment since it's made by International Harvester. Certainly should take over some of the Russian tank towing duties from Ukraine's older tractors. Also evidence of SEAD materials like HARM munitions. Probably being launched from old Su/MiG frames (possibly ones upgraded by former Warsaw Pact NATO members), others agree. So long as the frame has the appropriate NATO pylon mount, the missile could be launched in pre-programmed mode where it would fire and fly to a GPS location, search for radar signals once in the area, attack any it finds, and detonate at the GPS coordinates if it finds nothing. Ukraine has destroyed or harassed enough AA sites that they've begun flying proper sorties in Kherson.

Russia's continued tank issues (pulling unmaintained 40-year-old stock out of deep storage) plus their wheeling and dealing with Iran made for spirited discussion. The conclusion: Russia might not be good at their job but Iranian mechanics are top notch.

Amnesty Interplanetary defends the actions of the Empire. Shame on Ukraine for defending itself. Russian anal orgies still okay, though. Some here think the US is to blame, somehow. Or maybe NATO. (/eyeroll)

We got a good laugh about Russia's inflated SAMs and HIMARS claims, how precise HIMARS are, and wondered if you could cope cage an entire region. People dealt with Russian graffiti creatively. UA's MoD got in on the jokes, too.
