Don't bother with Casablanca. It's a crap hole. Marrakech, though, is fantastic.

I didn't think Casablanca was a crap hole.   Marrakesh was insane, tho.   Rest of the country was rather cool and mellow except for Marrakesh, honestly couldnt wait to leave.  Tangier was my favorite, followed by the Saharan desert towns.

We took a tour of the studio there!  Very cool but not well preserved.   A lot of the sets were crumbling and rotting away.  I should break out my pics....

Essaouira is a great break by the ocean after the bustle of Marrakesh. Lots of nice seafood.

...or Essaouira.

FTFA:  The Moroccans are not big on canines. Love a f---ing cat, though," the director said. "We show up to shoot (...) there were literally a thousand cats, okay? And these cats (...) they're not afraid of anything." The situation was complicated further by the two Belgian Malinois dogs in the scene being filmed, who were reportedly constantly distracted by chasing cats. "You want that dog focused on what he's supposed to bite, and what he's not supposed to bite. Hit the mark, right? And there's ten cats walking around and you're going, 'Oh, Jesus. Oh, Jesus." "You're sitting behind the monitor going, 'what's the dog looking at? What's the dog looking at? Oh my god, oh my god, he's going to bite - Argh!' It got a little crazy between cat-wrangling, and dog-wrangling, and people-wrangling."

I think I just romanticized Casablanca because of the film. I liked Marrakech because it was electric. Tangier is one of the cities I'm looking at to retire if I don't have to work until I die.

Ive only spent 36 hours in Morocco, but it was amazing. The food and people are top drawer, the cats were friendly and well fed. I overnighted in Tangier with an excursion to Chefchaouen, the city built by smurfs.

They have sh*t the nest in Marrakesh. The Four Seasons recommended a guide and a security guard to go into the Medina. The locals flat out lie about the route to the nearest bab. One guy, while standing under a direction sign to the jemaa el-fnaa, pointed in the opposite direction in response to the question "which way back to the square?" Every suggested route took you by their shop. They will send a small child up to you to ask a question and if you respond the child will start screaming and then some guy will start harassing you, but you know what will soothe the upset child, some cash.
Fes is great, Assilah is great, Essaouira is great, Azrou is great, Tangier is great and the American Legation, very important to US history, is a must do.  And the Berber alphabet is probably the coolest alphabet.
