Divorce is never a good thing. It tears families apart, has psychological effects on children and other family members and it financially ruins you. Only reason to get out in my opinion is if there was abuse.

I blame Lars.

It's always Lars fault.

No matter what.

Murder is more practical, especially if you can get away with it rather than ride out the prison sentence.

People with issues don't belong in relationships. They get better and have no need for the other person anymore.

Everyone knows they peaked when Ron McGovney left & that they sold out after the Metal Up Your Ass EP.

Pro tip: if someone was drunk and/or high for years when you married them, sobriety may cause them to realize they would've made decisions differently.

You don't have issues?  Found the lizard-person!

I have issues.  My wife has issues.  Nothing requiring meds or therapy, but we're people.  And we've managed to stay married for two decades so far.

The trick is not having insurmountable issues, then finding a partner who can tolerate them and maybe moderate them rather than aggravate them.  And you for them, of course.

I've been to more than enough 12 step meetings to have met more than a few people who's relationships have ended up in the crapper due to the other person saying "I want out, you're not the person I though you were"

25 years is a long time. The kids are all grown up. This is what happens.
Humans change over time. Anything over seven years seems like an effort was made and they should be respected for it.

It was obvious to me that my parents shouldn't have been together starting when I was 5. There was no abuse.

They should have divorced.

The universal problem with Americans is we have a long list of people we think need to be imprisoned in one way or another.

My boomer parents burned all our heavy metal cassettes in the early 90's for being demonized.

Over is over, it happens. You wake up one day and decide you don't want to do it any more. The resentment of having to do it grows, apathy sets in, and you go separate ways.

B.s.

Fact is, regardless of lifestyle, get old enough and think enough you realize you'd farked less people and focused on different b.s.

The reason half the people don't divorce is because they don't get to think and or don't get old.

Nope.  I'm not one of those people who claims I'm just as crazy in love with my wife as the day I met her, but I found my partner for life and the reason we don't get divorced is because we're good for each other and get along and support each other and have a long history of that.

We're thinking and getting old AND staying together.  It's just not a Hallmark romance movie, that's all.

Hopefully and maybe.
I just see it.
Because, most people don't think. I'm talking about serious thinking.  Like deep stripping down of everything.
Like, thinking so long, you ask, if one had the magic do anything you wanted, time travel and shiat....

See at first you think  I'll fix this. Or that.
But.
Then you realize you'd make different choices.
And be different.
And those changes would actually change your path.
Thus it invalidates everything.
You're a product of choices and not much more. Change the choices changes you. And changes who comes into your life.
So it's all kind of a cosmetic joke.
But.

After that you think even more.

And you see more and know more. And you're left questioning the most basic choices and out comes. It's all egg 🥚 chicken 🐔  paradox.

So must people just shrug and say:
I'd wouldn't do it differently.

But the point is you can't.  And everything is a lie.  And most people don't think of any of this because it makes you nuts. And no one likes that loss of control.

So you accept things as they are so you can feel in control.

Mrs. Darch and I just celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary. We met in high school. She was 16, I was 17.
I'm not going to pretend we don't have issues- we're humans- but we complement each other and still enjoy each other's company. We went roller disco skating in Central Park last night. We still have loads of fun together.

You gotta put the work in but when you do, it's a lot of fun.

25 years is not a failed marriage, 25 years is a successful marriage.

People change. Needs and wants change. They lived and worked together and raised two kids and now they're just moving on. It happens.
