Some people might have been embarrassed to actually sign their name to a four-sentence slice of "analytical" nonsense published on a nothing blog. But not Greg Michalowski.

You could have also used 'Reggaeton' as a starting point, which is beginning to gain attention in Brazil (though not yet to the levels of Spanish-speaking countries).

Every single popular fitness trend comes crashing down. The faster it comes up, the faster it will go back down.

Fitness devices all work, and they all don't.

We know that it takes far more time, energy, and discipline than Americans have for any fitness device to be effective on a large scale. That means, it's just a matter of time for buyers to realize that they were fat and lazy before, and dropping money on another device can't change that. So they stop. And in this case, that means they stop paying the monthly fee.

And as other people realize that so-and-so we bragged about losing 10 pounds in one month with XYZ is still fat, they realize it's a silly fad and they never buy in.

This never could have ended any other way...

Or, they can just buy an exercise bike second hand for about $100 and prop their tablet on it to show video while they pedal.

Apparently you live in a wig-wam you constructed and have clothes made out of birch-bark to go along with the shoes you whittled out of driftwood you found while foraging for wild berries. Way to go, Grizzly Adams.

That's entirely my point.

People buy fitness fads, but they are paying for the promise of being reasonably fit, healthy and skinny. They could achieve that by eating differently and walking. Or they could join a gym. Or they could get a bicycle. Or a used stationary bicycle. It doesn't matter what it is, because in the end they won't use it.

Pelton and every other new cool fitness thing becomes popular because people who have already tried, and failed, with traditional stuff are able to convinced themselves that this new thing will be different. It will be fun and amazing and they get all of those things they want.

But it never will be. Because being fit takes a certain level of discipline and we don't prioritize it/care enough about achieving it.

Once people realize that it is still a lot of work and lifestyle changes, they realize the new fad isn't any better. Then it has very little reason to exist.

Exercise is more effective if you do it for more than three minutes at a time.

The thought process is basically "Maybe this form of exercise won't be torture like every other single form of exercise that exists." It never works. It's always torture, unless you're one of the lucky ones who actually enjoy that type of thing somehow.

So, to elaborate a bit on my already verbose post... it's really about what drives the popularity and how quickly it's adapted. Pelton is a stationary bicycle. It might even be a good one, but it's popularity was driven by hype. It wasn't just cycling enthusiasts, it was picked up by all the regular Joe's. It's popularity and growth was never sustainable.

That doesn't mean it isn't good or useful as an exercise device.

What you've got isn't what I'd consider a fad. It's great at what it does and has stood the test of time.

In any case, I hope it works out well for you.

Buy a real bike.  A stationary bike is boring as fark. The only time you ride the stationary is when you can't ride the real bike.

This. I went down to eating one meal a day and started taking my dog on hikes at the local state park. I've dropped 40 pounds in 8 months. I still have a long way to go but I find the hikes have really helped get my head cleared and work through some things.

I 100% recommend that people get back out in to nature and enjoy it. Remember to always pack out what you pack in, even if what you packed in happened to be inside your dog from her previous meal.

I don't get the logic of raising the price when sales are down.  I'd love to have one, but I'm not paying full price for the bike AND a monthly subscription too.  Pick one or the other.  Make your money on the hardware or make your money on the recurring fee.

So we have one and it gets really good use, and its actually a really good stationary bike. There is 0 reason why i would upgrade it any time soon, and if i ditch their ecosystem, i'll still use it. I forget what we paid for it, it wasn't cheap, but they absolutely sold it at a loss.

The problem with the content on it is once you move pass the gamification, there are dozens of other ways to get about 90% of what it provides, for free in many cases, particularly if you actually do cycle outside, and want to combine the data.

I'm too lazy to look into it, but if i could hack the console and just slap android on it, or cast from another device to it, i'd probably drop the subscription in a heartbeat. Right now its sort of like netflix in.....meh......i guess i get that value out of it and would mildly miss it....where i hang on to it. Start moving that price though, and its fine, i'll cancel, still have a bike that will last me forever, and i'll just buy a big tablet and lay it on the screen.

Prior to this i had a trainer, but its a lot nicer than having to drag my bike inside, and a more solid ride.

I have an indoor trainer for my bike and I agree that it's a pain in the ass to drag the bike inside. I have several friends with a peloton and I think I'd enjoy the "classes", but I'm not dropping 3 grand on the bike.
