>As with most MCU projects, Jessica Gao's series will likely put its own spin on the original version of the character.

Let us take a moment to appreciate that Marvel has done this, and generally done it so well that even the rabid fans don't have much to complain about.  They get the essence of the character, then they fiddle with it to adapt to the MCU and sometimes to make improvements for the sake of it... and it works.

I'm glad they're keeping the fourth-wall breaks. I would have expected that not to make it into the MCU.

It's the biggest plus with the MCU - they've figured out it's not one specific story with lots of side chapters, it's a general setting.  It can have comedy, adventure, mystery, horror (though honestly I think Doctor Strange 2 didn't quite make the 'horror' cut), romance, action, drama and essentially 'whatever'.

Why shouldn't the MCU have a show that appears to be 'Single Female Lawyer'? I expect eventually we'll get a proper detective series, something fairly episodic rather than what Jessica Jones gave us.  Because why not?  Though it's too late for Hulk now, the story's progressed too far, there's no reason we couldn't have a classic Wandering Hero series again.

The only problem with doing a Hulk series is that Mark Ruffalo plays banner as a little too mellow, so I can't quite see him being able to go into Immortal Hulk territory (although it would be fun to see him playing Joe Fixit in Banner's body).

Never got into the comic
But still remember the cover where she is wearing a pea coat, scarf around her lower face, and a watch cap

And saying " happy now?"

(In the early 90's she was wearing like Naga the Serpent level of skimpy outfits)

I read somewhere that when "The Incredible Hulk" was on CBS, Universal was planning to create a female Hulk, like they did with Bionic Woman.  While The 6 Million Dollar Man was based on the Martin Caidin novel Cyborg, there was no female counterpart in the novel, leaving Universal free to create their own creation that was 100% theirs. Marvel was in the same boat, no female counterpart of the Hulk. So one was rushed into production that Marvel would own.
I heard the same was the same reason they created Spider-Woman. Filmation's character Web Woman was originally Spiderwoman and Marvel learned female versions weren't covered for copyright infringement if they didn't have a female version of the character.
Other than a gag in the all-humor issue of the What If comic, Marvel didn't come up with female versions of Power Man and Wonder Man.

Did anyone watch Tatiana Maslany (who plays She-Hulk) on Colbert?

This whole exchange on why She-Hulk can keep her personality intact and control her emotions earned a massive eye roll from me. Stephen looked a little put out during the exchange. Or it could be the comic book nerd in me projecting onto him. She doesn't know or seem to care about the characters.

So long as she portrays the character in line with the writing and director's direction... she's an actress.  She doesn't really need an exhaustive understanding of the character's history, motivations, and capabilities.  She needs to have a good enough grasp to fake the rest, as is her job.

All she didn't know was "Professor Hulk".  Big deal. Have some perspective.  She understands Jennifer's own transformation.  The explanation of how Jennifer keeps her own personality is straight from the script. It's a line of dialogue we hear in one of the trailers.

True, but she was being interviewed about the show and the character she plays. She doesn't have to know the exhaustive details or method act, so I think that's the way the character will actually be portrayed.

I'm kind of sorta hoping She-Hulk would tear up stuff and they have to get Morbius to make an appearance and he says "It's Morbin' Time" and she is now She-Hulk attorney at law. If Tatiana had said "You have to watch to find out!" I would've been satisfied.

But now I think that character arc is reduced to "I'm smart because I'm a woman, duh!", which I feel is a loss.

It's probably just me, but that interview felt like when Trump was president and giving speeches and I didn't feel as he was speaking to me at all. Perhaps I'm not the target audience.

I'll watch it to see how the character develops and then form my opinion.

I get it. And yeah I scoffed when she said "I think he's called Smart Hulk". I scoffed LOUD.

Lol I'm just a nerd that's all and I know that mistake really rustled my jimmies and ruined the rest of the interview for me. I'm laughing at myself now.

I prefer Holland or Vellani or Reynolds to this. I know we can't have that obsession with everyone, but it tends to make a better viewing experience.

LL316: I know we can't have that obsession with everyone, but it tends to make a better viewing experience.

Even when it doesn't, it still adds to our vicarious enjoyment of the actor's experience.   For me, I just want to imagine the actor is enjoying the role, playing with their talents in front of the camera.  I love watching people who are enthusiastic about their work, even when I don't like the work itself.

For an actor playing a superhero... yes, if they grew up dying waiting for the next issue to come out, went out for Halloween dressed as that character in a costume they made themselves because the purchased ones weren't good enough, and they have a nerd's encyclopedia knowledge of their character and everything that's ever happened to or around them?  That absolutely adds to the perception they're having the time of their life playing the part, and that is awesome.

But I can separate that from the actual performance.

Yes, because superhero physics are in play.  No matter what explanation they throw at you, super powers require a magical supply of vast amounts of energy with no apparent source.  You ignore this because if you don't, there are no superhero stories.  Except Bat-man, but he doesn't really have super powers.
