The music is not unusual, nor are the instruments, BUT that music on those instruments is.  And I love every beat.  It's better than music, it's JAZZ.

Sound Fields: Adventures in contemporary field recording
Youtube esfUwg1-xrI

Even as I type I realize it sounds pretentious, but compositions from field recordings.

Off the air now, Sonarchy was a radio show for experimental music.  The field recording sets were my favorite.  One of the most beautiful sets (which sadly I can't find) was a guy making "music" with basically modulated sound from a massive industrial bandsaw.  Think of Aphex Twin in a lumber yard.

The whole scene is kind of Quixotic, and I really respect people that follow their vision.

My niece was a vocal major in college. She was never in opera so we heard 4 years of her choral music. I'd never been exposed to much choral music and it took me awhile to like it. Now, I listen to it all the time.

I remember her senior solo recital. It included material like "Where Does the Time Go." Her version of "Green Finch and Linnet Bird" was better than any recorder version I've heard.

Zeuhl. There are other bands in the genre, but Magma created it and is the most well known. Kind of a heavy prog with lyrics in a fictional language, Kobaïan. I feel as if Klingon opera would sound like this.

I don't think it's "unusual", but even though I don't speak any foreign languages, I love listening to the sound of Maria Callas singing opera.  Just the sound and power of that voice.

I used to make blanket statements about how I didn't like choral music until I actually listened to some.
The example you posted is one of the most beautiful pieces of music I have ever listened to.  I heard it a few years ago and listen to it regularly.

I'm not really into music that much-- I don't know genre names, artists, or much else. I do know what I like, though, and I have a playlist / station on Pandora that I listen to a lot. It has songs like:

Sunday - DJ Day
On the 2nd Floor - Airlock
Mellow - Boris Blenn
Cafe de Floure - Doctor Rockit
Santa Maria - Gotan Project

If someone wants to help me apply some sort of genre label to these so I can search for more like them, that'd be great.
