That is insane.

I was at the 25th Anniversary Concert in Red Rocks!!

It was insane. And yea they did a video tour showing how much of a clusterf*ck it is.

Also, this article isn't correct. It's about $15M to fix what's "behind the scenes" and what no customer will see (HVAC/Plumbing/Walls). The actual interior is gonna be even more. I'd say $25M+ by the end.

Trey even joked that "We gotta make a lot more TV shows!" at the end, but they're doing it.

They're worth like, what, half a billion dollars? They'll be OK.

$15 mil isn't astronomical.

I mean, I don't have it.  But it's not "real money" anymore.

Casa Bonita is a very large building. I'm not at all surprised that it cost a bunch of money to refurbish because it is such a large building and it probably wasn't maintained as well as it could have been.

The space is huge and maintenance was long neglected.  The fountain out front was condemned and had to be completely rebuilt. They're making the restaurant more accessible to disabled and upgrading kitchen/bathrooms.  There's also a lot of safety upgrades. shiat adds up quick.

It's an institution and they'll easily get 20 years of steady business to recoup their costs.

I went there occasionally for birthday parties in the mid 1970's. I still can remember the distinct smell of recycled dive pool water and honey on hot sopapias.

I hope they can retain that smell for future generations.

What's the point of being filthy rich if not to do things like this? Some things aren't about the money, even if they require a lot of it.

This is so much better than a 200' yacht, or a 30K sq ft house for 4 people, or putting your name on some university building.

May their respective bankruptcies coincide with the day of their deaths.

It probably would have been cheaper to tear it down and build an exact replica of it.

The food was awful, but the experience is memorable with the divers. I think we went when I was maybe 10. I remember the sopapillas, but the other food is why we never went back. My family would usually go out for Mexican food if we were eating out, and would go out of our way for great Mexican food. My grandma lived in Boulder, so when we all went to Casa Bonitas, it was a bit out of the way for us. I don't think anyone wanted a second visit.

I lived in Denver for about 18 years, but nothing I heard about it sounded compelling enough to do so. Then again, I despise restaurants in general, have no use for 'atmosphere,' and even if the food IS really good (which theirs, famously, was not), I'd usually rather eat takeout in my car in the parking lot. I get to pick the music and the temperature, and I don't have to listen to screaming children.

Also, while sopapillas are awesome, frybread > sopapillas. Come at me, bro.

This will lead to Matt and Trey fighting and stop working together, South Park will cancelled.
