"This story is just another disinformation campaign designed to break the public trust in a president that lived on transparency."

Nobody believes that, not even the Dumpy fan club.

I'll smile when trump's knees are rubbed to the bone from being rawdogged like one of his porn star mistresses.
Which, at this pace, may be next month.

For those of us that aren't following this as closely as others, what exactly does this mean?  It seems that that idiot saying he's going to go down to the archives shows that he knows that what Trump did was illegal, and he was going to try and cover it up...but IANAL (not to brag or anything)

The key info is here:

According to a John Solomon column that was actually the first to report details of this purported cooperation in June, the subpoena specifically asked for surveillance videos covering the room where Trump had stashed his stolen documents.
Around the same time, the Trump Organization, which owns Mar-a-Lago, received a request for surveillance video footage covering the locker and volunteered the footage to federal authorities, sources disclosed.
On June 24, two days after DOJ sent a subpoena for the surveillance footage, Betsy Woodruff Swan reported that it wasn't just Kash who had been given privileged access to Trump's Archives. Solomon had also been made Trump's representative at the Archives.
That seeming coincidence - that the FBI formally asked for surveillance videos showing who had accessed Trump's stash of stolen records on the same day that Kash and Solomon were officially added to the list of those who represented Trump's interests with the Archives - may raise the stakes of Trump's legal exposure significantly.
That's because if Trump deliberately allowed people not permitted access to classified documents or his negligence allowed people to remove such documents, it would trigger other parts of the Espionage Act than the one that prohibits someone from stealing classified documents and refusing to give them back (and all are covered by the warrant).

Basically, it's not merely that Trump had classified documents and wasn't returning them--that's one part of the warrant--it's that he's ALSO not allowed to let other people see them or remove them. And this seems to indicate that he DID do that, and knowingly did it, and this undercuts any claims that "he didn't know he wasn't supposed to do this."

How many funny ways can he drop the soap? He could pretend he slipped on a banana peel. He could prance in limp-wristed. He could boldly hold the soap above his head. Etc... Probably wouldn't get many laughs but it might be enough to keep him alive.

It looks like they have been trying get the documents for a while. At least since May 2021. He turned over some documents but not all.. That is why they are looking a charge of obstruction. Because they gave him a chance to voluntarily turn them all over and he did not. It looks like they have an informant on Trumps inner circle telling them more documents were being kept in his home. So they got a warrant to get them.

He also presented himself as a "Ukranian Expert" to Trump on the lead up to the "perfect call" and the first impeachment. So much so that Trump didn't even know who Vindman was. He was a Mark Meadows underling who got promoted laterally... to the Department of Defense.

Coincidentally, his phone text messages were wiped accidentally just like with the Secret Service phones and top guys at Department of Homeland Security.

Exactly. In the old days, it was easy to keep track of the crooks, usually one or two per administration (other than Nixon). Burt Lance. Ron Brown. Pinocchio**s administration had an incredibly deep bench. Most of the Cabinet at the end was "Acting", because the first or second appointees had to run away. Everywhere we look, it's crooks all the way down. And that's just on the federal level. The state and local levels are also staffed with incompetency or evil. Republicans have no intention of serving the majority of their constituents. They are only in it for the money. Democrats are not immune from this, but the ratio is extremely lopsided.

It means that even if Trump did have rights to see it.  The moment he left office he didn't have the right to let them see them, so he basically handed off top secret materials to people who didn't have clearance to see them.

Basically espionage.

It seems like the DoJ tried their best to avoid this shiatshow that has happened.

They were really trying not to do these "unprecedented" things.

Do not overlook this gem from the inset text in the article (emphasis mine):

The search warrant for Trump's residence cited three criminal laws, all from Title 18 of the United States Code. Section 793, better known as the Espionage Act, which covers the unlawful retention of defense-related information that could harm the United States or aid a foreign adversary; Section 1519, which covers destroying or concealing documents to obstruct government investigations or administrative proceedings; and Section 2071, which covers the unlawful removal of government records. Notably, none of those laws turn on whether information was deemed to be unclassified.

So that torpedoes the spontaneous declassification defense.

John Solomon was an editorial writer for the conservative website The Hill until they kicked him out for lying too much and being too extreme.
