Not sure if it will get released on Beta or VHS, personally I am hoping tor Laser Disk.

This show does look really fun, which is nice and what I wish Falcon and Winter Soldier had been.

Yes.  She was breaking the 4th wall before Deadpool.

Not so much of a straight up comedy, more of a very tongue in cheek, 4th wall breaking, vehicle to poke fun at other marvel artists, writers, and properties, that happens to be funny.

That said, a straight up comedy is probably the right way to move it to TV.

They need to talk with Hanna-Barbara and Adult Swim and cross this over with Harvey Birdman, attorney at law.

Falcon and the Winter Soldier was pretty good execution of some pretty lame ideas. I know they had to do a lot of late rewrites due to the plague plot, but somewhere they forgot that both leads have pretty strong comedic skills on top of their action chops. The end result was pretty good but heavier than a Marvel show should probably be.

Hopefully this ends up being a better mix.

it looks like it's going to be intentionally silly and campy and over the top fun.

Yeah, he was in The Incredible Hulk with Ed Norton, back in the day, and he's reprising the character.. as he also did in Shang-Ji.

The first run was more drama, but she was almost immediately a more complex character than normal, and added comic elements throughout the 80s.

I believe so, the original Marvel/DC 4th wall breaker passed the torch to her.

Love that they're finally starting to acknowledge that the Ed Norton Hulk film happened.

Now let's fold in Tim Blake Nelson.

Though I don't see anyone cast as Awesome Andy which is a bummer.

They had me at Tatiana Maslany.

2022-08-12 11:38:50 AM
I'm on board 100%. I love this run on she-Hulk in the comics, and Maslany could do a one-woman show of the Manhattan Phone Book and I'd be there opening night.

It's funny to me that this is what that ill-fated Adrianne Palicki Wonder Woman show wanted to be, but it's 100% in She-Hulk's DNA already.

I look forward to seeing what weird and ridiculous MCU characters might show up looking for representation for DUIs and crap (if I recall, Ben Grimm was more or less a constant client of hers).

When Byrne took over in the 80s, definitely. 4th wall and all.

Either they're going to stick the landing and this is going to be awesome, or it's going to be the most cringe-inducing Marvel show ever made. I don't see an in-between area.

stuhayes2010: Didnt read the comic.  Was She Hulk always comedy?

Yes.

I mean... if you're familiar with comics, the characters get passed around and crossovered all the time, so sometimes she wasn't because comics writers are as capable of "not getting it" when writing a character they didn't create as the MCU TV shows are.

But generally speaking, yes, 100% comedy relief character.

It being a "lawyer show" is pretty on-point, too.  She-Hulk's two powers (the ones she intentionally uses anyhow, she has strength too) are invincibility, which she uses to take on clients no normal mortal lawyer could handle, and enhanced hotness in her green form, which she uses in exactly the way you or I would use a supernaturally attractive alternate form that makes us completely immune to all physical consequences: to score hook-ups and occasionally longer-term relationships.

Yes, the fact that she's a pinup model in green mode is explicitly part of her power-set in-story, and yes, that is a joke about 'the most common superpower' in comics.  You now know pretty much what the comic is like from that alone, I'd imagine.  Not "joke joke joke" comedy, more of the "the writers needed an outlet to vent about how farking absurd the genre conventions they have to work with are" kind of comedy.  Not exactly parody since there's nothing specifically being parodied, but an extended send-up of the setting that bounces between Harvey Birdman and Alley McBeal.
