Geez, what a dumb ass. He can't even climb over the fence; he had to do an uncontrolled leap. He'll be dead soon. His family should def get a big life insurance policy that includes stupidity.

Tourist: why is this spot called Dumbass Falls?  There's no water here.
Tour Guide: funny you should mention that.

You're not wrong, but it's not better.  Touron is a worse portmanteau than, I dunnoy, manties.  It's linguistically as bad as jumping over a fence on the edge of a cliff.

I also blame this kind of linguistic hooliganism for autocorrect thinking "dunnoy" is a common word.

I'm not mad, though.  I'm considering it.

I've lived in S Fl and Colorado. It's a word in both places. Hard core prescriptivism is a losing game.

If you ask me, it's a chifforobe.

I did not need the word "manties" in my life.

A similar thing happened to us on Mt. Baldy north of LA. Four of our party were hiking up ahead of the main group,1 of them was exploring a shelf of rock above the trail that we were on. The rock on Mt. Baldy is not competent and will often crumble with very small pressures. Well, the shelf did collapse under the hiker's weight, and he fell around 8'-9' down onto the trail and then slid past us down the mountain to the very edge of the precipice. The rock fall from the crumbling shelf knocked our son down, and then he slid past us as well and only stopped sliding around 3' from the edge. It all happened in 5 seconds or so -- no time to react or to even be fearful.

Blood and bruises everywhere, of course. A mile hike back to the car and that gawdawful switchback road back to the city.  We were fairly frantic, but everyone's bleeding finally did stop on the drive back, and fortunately there were no broken bones. I think we didn't even need stitches. Just some butterfly band-aids.

Nothing idiotic like from the article. Don't ask about the incident with me and the scented snuff.

""Touron" is a word created by combining tourist and moron, and is defined as someone who does something stupid while on vacation."

Interesting. I grew up in a tourist town on the Chesapeake. Now I live in San Diego west of the 5. I've been battling tourons my whole life and never knew they had a name. Totally gonna work this into my vocabulary going forward.
