Meanwhile, in the past month I have had six people who - after multiple-day stays - casually mentioned that they currently have covid-19.

We're teetering onto recession so we have to turn the meat grinder back to full speed to make up for lost profits.

Get back to work, consume, and try not to cough on your wealthy betters, plebs!

Wife's new boss infected the entire office with COVID by coming in to work while knowingly infected.  Which of course was brought home, so it's been a fun week of debilitating illness.  Last booster that was available was back in December, so it had completely worn off by now.  We were hoping to get the next round of boosters before something like this happened, but thanks to that dumb coont we weren't able to make it.

Wife got better pretty quick.  I'm struggling, but on Paxlovid, which seems to be doing its job (the side-effects are no joke though).  Now she's quitting that job today and already has something better lined up.  Two and a half years of bullet-dodging, and it only took one person to fark everything up.

But hey, I got this new pulseox to tell me that my O2 sat is low, which is nice.

We're still gonna win that drug war one of these days though.

I mean... 500 Americans have died per day, consistently, of COVID-19 for essentially the entire summer.  I think the lowest daily I've seen since March has been 380.

That's not the worst the pandemic has gotten, but we're still talking tens of thousands of people dying of this yearly in out country alone.

I guess the functional difference for why we don't give a shiat is that less than one percent of fatalities was fully vaccinated?  That's actually a lot more "voluntary" than many of the other major causes of violent death that it'd be trivially easy to damn near eliminate with minor effort in the US like gun violence and traffic collisions.

// Still not really consistently all that voluntary, though.

I'm enjoying the COVID trainwreck more than I should. So much hypocrisy on all sides of it.

Even my most adamant 'You need to stay home! Mask up! Stop the spread' type friends have just gone silent on the whole thing.
