Learned?

😫

2022-08-11 4:22:42 PM
What have we learned?  Racists use the cheap tiki torches from Walmart, not the nice ones from Lowes.

2022-08-11 4:23:36 PM
What have we learned? That police forces infiltrated with white supremacists won't go after their own. But, I think we're still learning that.

2022-08-11 4:24:04 PM
I learned I woefully underestimated how many freakshow racists are among us.

2022-08-11 4:24:05 PM
Why none of them were carted off to Gitmo immediately is why we're in this mess now.  And how many who were there were part of the 1/6 terrorist attack also?

2022-08-11 4:24:32 PM
Incitements to violence and threats are not protected speech, Republicans.

2022-08-11 4:25:16 PM
If Republicans love violence they should put up a statue to Nat Turner

2022-08-11 4:26:32 PM
I forgot what I learned, but I bet we're not doomed to repeat it.

2022-08-11 4:26:48 PM
They only thing they learned that day was that they could get away with anything.

2022-08-11 4:26:57 PM
We learned that Nazis marching in force to support a politician isn't an automatic disqualifier for 74 million people.

2022-08-11 4:27:04 PM
I learned there is a "Dawwww" tab in Fark that I can escape the reality of Politics and giggle at kittens and puppers when I need a sanity break!

Nothing was learned or the J6 would already have been sent to Gitmo, tried, had their appeals, and...

Yep - I'm a cynical prick and I still was surprised at the magnitude of that shiat.  Not so much that there would be that many, but that they'd be that bold about it

2022-08-11 4:37:43 PM
I'll always remember the gaslighting leading up to Charlottlesville.

"Racism isn't a thing in the Republican party" they'd say, "they don't represent us and it's a small number whose voice is just outsized."  And my personal favorite "they don't actually believe in what they say they do, they're just doing it to wind up the Liberals and you're dumb enough to fall for it."

If I got on base every time I got to swing the Charlottesville bat at Republicans I'd be Ty Farking Cobb.  It's one of the few things that they legitimately can't deny.

Oh, they tried...they tried to sell it as Antifa or "crisis actors."

But as soon as that frumpy redneck landed on everyone's newsfeeds that was it.  They came just shy of having to say "Yeah, he's one of ours."

And then came the copycat rallies, as if to drive home the point.  They got screamed at and chased out of Boston, largely the result of the Boston Police who pretty likely support them.

I had a joyous few months of just posting the link to the "Jews Will Not Replace Us" chanting.  And every time it just ended it.  The only one better was the picture of the dead Father and daughter trying to cross the Rio Grande.  I had people IRL telling me around town that I needed to tone down my rhetoric over that.

Every time I hear that whole bit "The Republican Party isn't racist" all I can hear is the sound of a Dodge Charger's wheels squealing.

2022-08-11 4:38:36 PM
ffs, it has been five years, hasn't it?  /sigh... i hate this timeline.

The 2016 election should have told you that. Charlottesville just showed that they felt comfortable enough with Trump getting elected to flaunt their racism.

At the time I had no clue what the hell "The Jews will not replace us," meant.  I still don't fully understand it, but it seems like it's mostly:  "We're scared, of reality, ALL OF IT."

we learned that if free speech is completely free it will be used to justify atrocities.
but we'd rather have the 1st and the second even while sprinting into fascism than question whether literal nazis really NEED their own facebook groups to organize which people they want to murder on.

we're so busy hand wringing about "slippery slopes" that we're willing to get up and go to work every day swimming down streets of blood to avoid them.

And at this website, there was a shiatposter who started spending his waking hours insisting that Bernie Sanders was somehow responsible for Charlottesville.

Ok. I'm sitting here at Boston Logan Airport, waiting for a delayed flight, after dealing with flight delays and cancellations, and I have one thing to say:
Ninety percent of the people I haven encountered working their asses off, have been immigrants or POC. 'The system' is barely functioning, but the only reason that it is even functioning at all is because of 'Those People'. They are a treasure.  They clean the planes, clean the rest rooms, fill almost all info the public interacting roles, and they are farking awesome.

And they are not just grunt work or scut work. Their customer attitudes are almost all great.  They have to endure the public face of frustration with the system, and they are much better at soothing anger than their white counterparts.

So, an extra big FU to racists

the "nazi enabling zone" is a lot larger than that.  thats the problem - that is unrecognized.
'punching' nazis being illegal AT ALL is a problem.  not in the literal sense of punching them in the street.  but in the sense that we have no legal controls over something which is hideously dangerous to society. instead we treat it like just some bad opinion someone has...like wanting mayo on a hot dog or something.

germany has the right of it.  zero tolerance for nazi bullshiat.  if you're a nazi you go to jail.  if you pretend to be a nazi you go to jail.  if you joke about being a nazi you go to jail.  if you teach your dog to do nazi memes you go to jail.

I will attest to both: I worked as a cocktail waitress at a DC jazz club decades ago, and I actually ended up owing money at the end of my shifts.

Admittedly I was not a good cocktail waitress, but I had been assured that there was no way I couldn't make money in that job.
So. I quit after two weekends, especially after one of the bartenders explained that all I had to do was give him regular BJs.

Its Great Replacement Theory. Elites like Soros (the Jews!!!!) are bringing in illegal immigrants to replace white, Christian Americans because the immigrants will be easier to control. And farker Carlson repeats it every night.

There are two parts to the ACLU, hey. I don't mean this in any metaphorical, two-sides-to-a-coin way; I mean there are literally two parts of the org. Both do great work, I think - but you can support the one without contributing to the legal defense part, easily enough.
