Worked against Hillary.

However, Biden has been really catching his stride lately and people are beginning to notice.  I think more people may decide they like competent government to the clown show.

All Republicans have are revenge tactics against their perceived enemies.  They don't care about their constituents.  They're subhuman liquid amphibian shiat.

I know it's unlikely to get through to Republican voters, but the amount of whining Trump and other senior Republicans have done about committee investigations (particularly the Jan 6 committee) and the "illegitimacy" of this process is going to make for some funny answers if and when they get to run a committee. Folks will be lining up to appear in front of their committees to quote stuff back to Republican committee members about how meaningless their committees are.

Every fascist dictatorship needs a compliant bureaucracy to exert control over the people.
If they get power again, they will reach into every aspect of your life, and it will take a Revolution to dislodge them.

I mean, it makes sense for this to be their goal. Time after time we've seen the GOP is incapable of actual Government. They can Rule just fine, but the hard work of governing and having shiat work is outside their skill set.

You can't complain about competent government.
You can't say your taxes are going to abortions in Texas
You can't say Biden is doubling the national debt every 6 months.
All you can do, is sit in your garage, fondle the Trump flag and listen to Bannon's podcasts.  Almost sad.

The "small government" part has always been about eliminating taxes for the rich and ALL regulations for business. They would very much like to pour cancer causing chemicals right into your f*cking drinking water, thank you very much.

Never forget, everything they say is a f*cking lie. All of it.

I love this stage of GOP decline. Republicans just threaten to do the same "bad thing" the Dems are doing to them when Republicans somehow claw out of the grave they have dug for themselves, as if that is some kind of deterrent. It's more like daring the Dems to turn the screws even more.

It's really important to the Republicans to neuter the DOJ and FBI because they don't want their criminal activities exposed.

Imagine a criminal organization was trying to take over the government. What would they have to do?

1) destroy faith in the elected government by making it seem effectless
2) do away with fair elections so they can install who they want in office
3) do away with law enforcement so crimes can go unchecked

There, I described the last couple of decades of GOP policy. Sorry if I missed any points.

I can go pull up one of the articles where current committee members admit they're dragging the Jan 6 hearings out as long as they can because it's good politics, if you like.

This use of committees as a political tool to smear opponents basically started with Bill Clinton & Gingrich. Though I'd imagine a Conservative would argue Nixon, but.

My question of trolling comes from the fact that you comment that both parties do this, but the Clinton example you cite and current events don't point to this being a "both sides" issue.  Surely you can find more Democrats doing this to Republicans, right?  Or is it really a "both parties" issue?

The GOP has spent decades telling the country that government doesn't work. It's always in their best interest to be obstructionists. If they let government work, then there's no point to their existence.

2022-08-11 9:59:22 AM
Well...yeah. Did anyone think they would take up the job of improving the country or serving the people?

Hopefully the truth finally emerges on Trump & all but the most rabid Republicans & Qanoners have to accept what he is & what he has done.

McCarthy can go back to who he was on the phone call with Liz Cheney, Graham can say he never trusted Trump & can replay his early videos insulting Trump. Cruz can do the same & they can all claim they knew it all along.

Of course the endless investigations into anyone with a D after their name will continue but at least Trump will be history.

I mean, this is literally day that ends with the letter "y" folks. That's all they do. They spent years investigating everything under Obama. Why is anyone even pretending it was ever going to be different?

Of course if we get people to show up and vote then maybe, just maybe, we keep the pressure on for 2024... and see the MAGAts crumble. They're already fracturing a bit. Several hardcore Trumpers near our primary house took down their MAGA flags and had signs for candidates Trump did not endorse, like Kleefisch. Sure they lost, but that's the fracture point. Before they were "WOOO WOOO LET'S GO BRANDON! FJB!! TRUMP RULEZ!" and now they chose to back someone other than Trumpy approved candidates.

So yes, he is losing his power slowly. Now the question will become if someone like DeathSantis will be able to take him out completely, in a political sense, and take of a fracturing  movement... or if he'll take over and it falls apart... or if Trump holds on by the skin of his teeth and it shrinks to an even crazier core of nutters.

I want a huge government that gives me everything from cradle to grave.
Why would I want a small government that takes away my rights, gives me nothing for my fealty then raises my taxes to pay for corporate welfare while it forces Christianity on me.

That's because their job is to destroy and privatize every part of the federal government that isn't the military. And they only want to keep nominal federal control of the military because they need SOME apparatus to take money from the poor (at home and abroad) and funnel to the "defense" contractors.

I know most of the "models" predict a lean toward the GOP, but for farksake, please don't take it as a given.  Campaigns need to remind voters of Republican incompetence, insipid goals.  If they win, shiatshow gameshow, with stupid prizes.

Benghazi5
Debt ceiling/government shutdown runs toward the cliff
MTG will get committee assignments
Gym Jordan will lead committees

Their main goal will be to monkey wrench everything they can in order to make Biden look bad.  Are "moderate" Republicans really dumb enough to want to vote for that?

Don't answer that, let me hope.

Similar thing is happening in Australia. We had a conservative Government for the last 9 years, and the last 3 years were run by a guy who thought he could use the US GOP playbook - appeal to the far right, degrade the functions of Government, do everything in secretive backroom deals, focus on 'wokeness' and other minor issues/distractions, etc.

When the bushfires hit in 2019, then the pandemic in 2020, it exposed them for who they were - culture warriors who werent interested in using the power of the Government to advance the welfare of the country but who were merely interested in trying to enact reactionary laws to satisfy their dwindling white conservative talk-back radio listening base. They completely floundered during these crises and were largely absent from the responses.

They were voted out in a landslide earlier this year and the new centre-left Labor Government have built a coalition with other moderates and progressives to actually start enacting policies and are putting out agendas to build policies to attempt to deal with some pressing issues. He's widely consultative with key stakeholders, including the state governments run by conservatives, and is obviously trying to build consensus for new policies rather than pick culture wars with perceived opponents.

They are enjoying a massive honeymoon effect because of this. The new PM, Albanese, was not exactly inspiring during the election campaign - the incumbent was a much more polished campaigner and had the support of the large conservative media companies - but now he's in position, he's been a complete breath of fresh air with his pragmatism.

I think people are just happy with the overall change in tone to constructive policy setting.
