SGC is not a great grading company, they let a lot of trimmed cards through. A 1952 Mantle in a 9.5 grade, that was graded by SGC, might just be trimmed because almost anyone would choose PSA or Beckett over SGC for a card so valuable and pristine

I'm guessing for the kind of dough this auction is trafficking in they probably sliced open the packaging for a closer look and re-grade.

Well I have like the whole set of 1980-something WWF trading cards so I'm set. All the serious card collectors can only laugh at me because they know they can't afford it.

I did some more research and the card is probably not trimmed but isn't a true 9.5. It has a slight stain on it's upper front border and PSA gave it a less grade, but SGC re-graded it higher for publicity

I've almost got a full set of Elon Musk's children cards. Just missing A-XII and Exa Dark Sideræl.

I mean, I have to inventory it, it's going to take up space on my shelves, maybe I can find a buyer who MIGHT be interested in it...

Is there a market for 1980s common cards?

It's a joke.

HOLY SHIAT

The buyer has no idea what they're buying, except they may be able to afford the lawyers to sue to get their money back.

/who am I kidding, it's a status thing
//it's not even about what's being purchased, it's about how much is being spent
///and wealthy people are rubbing their dicks in our faces

How much is my Mordecai Three-Finger Jones card worth now?

Oh, Heritage Auctions.

They've been known for influencing auction prices for years in the coin and video game collection communities. They had a history of having things graded by their own grading service, inflating the supposed price, and riding the wave to a high sale based on making people think the price was exploding.

Used to be you could get even the rarest video game carts for a couple grand, tops. Now you're talking millions because of how they influence the market.
