Incidentally, this is about 2 miles from my house.  I was out of town when the explosion happened but if it's the house I think it was it is almost certainly a meth lab explosion.  It had several boarded up windows, peeling paint, just looked like a meth house.  I was heading home at about 8:30 and they still have the whole area around there locked down.  I had no idea what was going on.

so it's a meth lab, or weed oil extraction or pipe bomb making gone wrong?

Gary is worse. Not just worse than Evansville. Worse than anywhere.

It is by far the grayest, blockiest, gloomiest, most sterile ugly place I have ever been. It made Scranton PA seem lively and colorful by comparison.

I was at my mom and dad's a few years ago and they have one of those damn police scanners. Christmas morning we're opening presents under the tree and the scanner goes nuts. Explosion, huge fire, roof fully engulfed.

I swear to God, one of the guys talking on the radio just says, "Merry Methmas, everyone!"

2 people died, thankfully neither of them children. The owner of the house survived but went went jail, where he was recently, like last month recently, beaten to death after throwing the n word at a cell mate who was already doing life for killing 3 people.

Akron wins if only slightly because somehow, in defiance of all logic, their music scene is pretty good and occasionally produces a really great band (Pretenders, Guided by Voices.)

Gary Indiana is where Michael Jackson fell from a vagina. That's it. And they lit the hell out of there practically while his hair was still wet with birth dook.

I know the kind of people that run a meth lab out of their home aren't usually the brightest bulbs in the bunch, but even by those lower standards that was a remarkably stupid thing to do.

I went to high school with him. He had little man syndrome bad, and he was also stupid and racist. A surefire formula for an early, preventable death. The type of guy who saw a bunch of movies and really thought the way it worked was that you were supposed to out badass the biggest badass in the joint and you would somehow immediately become leader of the inmates. We lost nothing of value, trust me.

Hey it's entirely possible he could have rigged it to explode while he was out of town.  We had some people do that near my city about 10 years ago.  Created a gas leak and left town while it filled with gas and eventually ignited.

From watching video of the explosion in TFA that's not what happened in this case.  A natural gas explosion would have been bigger and had a lot more fire.  So this was either a meth lab or some sort of home made explosive.  In Evansville it could easily be either one.

/ it's right on the border so there's a lot of bleed over from Kentucky too

I just read the article... 39 homes damaged and 11 'uninhabitable'... wow....
I have a cousin that lives about 3 blocks from there... he said there was a crew installing new windows in his house when the explosion happened... needless to say they were a little freaked out.

I call fake on that video.  There's no big assed orange flame in that blast, nor a huge fire at the base.  I've watched enough movies to know that explosions always have big assed orange flames and huge fires.

Always.

hahaha  nice.  I wish my dad was still alive to see those video rippin' on where he was born and raised!

He GTFO of town, joining the military even though when he was 8 y.o., his big brother was killed in action in WWII.  That's how much he hated his dad, gave no shiats about his town, and how much he never wanted to follow his other big brother into the family business of training and racing standard bred horses [harness racing; not as much fun as it sounds!]
