Abbott will just make that illegal then threaten to take away funds to punish you.

That would be even better.  Judge Clay Jenkins would run things his way.  He hates Abbott.

I wonder what options Abbott has to counter this. He'll probably just whine about it or ship immigrants to Dallas. When Dubya was running for pres in 2000, I learned that for whatever historical reasons, the Texas governorship is one of the weakest in the nation. I bet the Legislature would have to approve most counters, and it only meets every other year.

Of course, perennial scofflaw scum Paxton the AG can throw sand in the mix too. How is that farker not in jail yet?

Dallas is the richest city in the state, or as Abbott knows it "where the donation checks come from."
He's not gonna do shiat.

Newsflash: "big hair Karens" are women so not much could've changed and they'd still be on the other side of this decision.

It is basically a part-time job, leaving its occupants free to engage in the time-honored pursuit of stigginit.

This is the best news out of Dallas since they folded against the Niners in this year's playoffs.

When I started working in Dallas after college in 1965 -- 2 years after the Kennedy assassination -- it was one of the most conservative places in the state. Big billboard on the highway bragging that Dallas was the Southwest Headquarters of the John Birch Society and everything. I retired and moved elsewhere at the end of the century but my kids still live there. And now they like to brag that Dallas is one of the most liberal places in the state.

How times change.

Did that happen because Dallas became more liberal or because it stayed the same while the rest of Texass descending into madness?

Farkers are conservative die-hards. Most of their reactions variations on "Why isn't this the same as 50 years ago when I was in my 20s?"

Some of both, I think. Yes, the political background in Texas has shifted considerably to the right, which makes the cities -- especially Dallas -- seem more liberal by comparison. I mean, I used to work for Sen. Ralph Yarborough, who was a very popular liberal Democrat. He could never be elected today. I don't think even LBJ could be elected in Texas these days.

But also, there has long been a movement liberal young people who are so unfortunate as to have been born in goat-roper country in Texas to move to Austin, Houston, San Antonio, or Dallas shortly after graduating high school in search of work in a healthier economic environment. This is even more likely to be the case for recent college graduates.

The result is an aging population in small towns and rural areas over the last couple of censuses (with the possible exception of the Hispanic population, which has a high birth rate than the Anglo population). A lot of young people continue to move out of state, too. And those who can afford to go to college out of state are much more likely not to come back to Texas.

LBJ would do fine. He knew where the bodies were buried and was as ruthless with his Kompromat as any Russian.
