(Some Guy)   Two recent studies strongly support zoonotic transmission of Covid-19, so that's it for the lab leak theory, right? RIGHT?   ( divider line

LOL, right.

Incredibly long, wonky piece. The content is summed up at the start though:

"Lab leak" is a lot like the parrot in this sketch, and conspiracy theorists a lot like the pet store owner.

People still think vaccines cause autism, despite that being repeatedly proven false. What makes you think they'd stop believe in the lab leak theory?

The lab was obviously in a zoo.

I looked at the evidence I could find on the internet, talked to my pastor, and got all the available facts about that Fauci guy from the news (fox, if you must know). It feels like the most likely origin, based on my own research, is the lab. My opinion is valid and should be taken seriously. I DID THE RESEARCH.

Look, so long as I can still blame China, I don't care.

Remember when some new evidence came up that made Biden look at the lab leak theory one more time and all the Trumpers were suddenly drowning in their own smug?

The Wuhan lab was working on bats and had gathered them from regions where the closest ancestors to the virus have been discovered.  A lab escape as the cause doesn't mean the virus was modified or somehow engineered, it simply means the poorly managed lab allowed the natural virus to leak out, rather than it being leaked from a cage in the market.  This story back in April 2020 using sources that hadn't been scrubbed yet seems the most plausible origin.

Of course covid was due to a lab leak.  Otherwise, why would it be necessary to publicize these "studies" "proving" it was came from animals?
2022-08-10 3:43:51 PM
Don't care. It originally came from an animal and was not genetically engineered - genetic analysis of the virus by umpteen independent research around the world proves this. If it went straight from the animals to the humans, or if it was discovered, contained, then accidentally released, it's the same net result with largely the same lessons to learn.

And the theoretical poor SOB of a lab tech who accidentally the planet probably either died of it, or killed some random sampling of his friends and family in the process. So although my brother died of COVID last year and you might think I'd be bitter about it, frankly, I'd have a lot of sympathy for the hypothetical poor bastard.

Ok you lab leak believers.  Say it was a lab leak.  What are you gonna farking do about it? Seriously think your answer through and remember this is China you're talking about shiatting upon.

You reform the WHO a bit to maybe be a little less trusting of sources when announcing disease vectors threatening the world. You increase oversight and funding of labs around the world to improve safety measures.  You nuke China.  Wait, maybe scratch that 3rd suggestion.

It was not the first lab leak and it will not be the last lab leak.

That's just the way it goes

If the null hypothesis is that COVID-19 was indeed leaked from a lab, then none of what these studies listed disproves the null hypothesis

Failure to disprove the null hypothesis keeps it as a viable option regardless of how much evidence you accumulate for other theories
