Now, this is a Trump lawyer, so I'm not expecting the highest caliber of legal mind, but

"Halligan said the search warrant was sealed, and because she had not been party to this aspect of Trump's legal portfolio until Monday, did not know what kinds of documents the FBI might be looking for"

[Morbo.jpg] Warrants do not work that way.

They're not sealed from the people who are being served the warrant*. Now I don't know if the rules of privilege mean she can't reveal the contents without Trump's say so, since it's "his" warrant, but that's not what she was claiming.

*Offer not valid for FISA terrorism surveillance warrants, which is super shady.

Nonetheless, she insisted that the government's search "was an appalling display of abuse and power - complete overkill." She also asserted that "if they needed documents, they could have asked. There's never been an issue with compliance."

I feel like stealing the classified documents in the first place could be construed as an issue with compliance.

I suspect there were previous negotiations to try to get the documents back and Trump told them tough shiat, he wasn't giving them back (or he denied having taken anything at all, which is more likely).

FTFAHe told Halligan that the Justice Department has an open line to his attorneys and said that he's instructed them to turn over responsive documents if they have them.

Then why are they there?

/farking lying asshole

2022-08-10 10:36:46 AM
Over the next eight hours, Halligan said 30-40 FBI personnel conducted the search. There were a handful dressed in suits, but most wore t-shirts, cargo pants, masks and gloves. Halligan estimates 10-15 FBI vehicles went in and out of the property, including a Ryder truck.

Clearly not respecting the Mar-a-Largo dress code.  Masks and gloves suggests someone had document recovery duty in the toilet

duty toilet.  Heheheheheh

Halligan said the search warrant was sealed, and because she had not been party to this aspect of Trump's legal portfolio until Monday, did not know what kinds of documents the FBI might be looking for nor what kinds of documents the former president keeps with him at Mar-a-Lago.
Nonetheless, she insisted that the government's search "was an appalling display of abuse and power - complete overkill." She also asserted that "if they needed documents, they could have asked. There's never been an issue with compliance." Halligan said the search came as a "huge surprise."

Okay, "sealed" search warrants only means "sealed" to the person who receives them if it isn't the subject of the warrant. Like, if I'm at work and I accept a warrant for my company (which I'm not authorized to do, but let's pretend), I'm not allowed to open it up and peek inside. However, my company's attorneys are certainly allowed to do so, even if they're not "party" to that part of the company's business.

I can believe in Trump's compartmentalized psycho world that she didn't know what the FBI was looking for, but then how does she know there was never an issue with compliance? And we know that's not true anyway, because there already has been an issue with compliance, with the first batch of records Trump didn't hand over.

Turn in your bar card, Halligan, you don't even deserve a barTENDER card.

There were a handful dressed in suits, but most wore t-shirts, cargo pants, masks and gloves.

According to Halligan, the FBI divided up the search into three areas: a bedroom, a storage area and an office.

Those gloves (hope they had gas masks too) were definitely necessary if they had to search where Fatty sleeps.

When you have a legal portfolio maybe you should consider not committing more crimes.  Or go right a head and commit more crimes.  Definitely not for me to advise.  My portfolio has one speeding ticket (paid) and one parking ticket (1983 - unpaid.  Come at me Mattoon, Illinois.  I await ya).

She also asserted that "if they needed documents, they could have asked. There's never been an issue with compliance.

Your guy committed a crime when he took them from the Whitehouse grounds.  DOJ sorta let that slide when the Archives askedfor them back, and you clearly didn't comply.

If Twice Impeached and Soon to be Indicted* Ex-President Sniveling Asshole had complied, the FBI wouldn't be at your door with a search warrant and a box van.

tl;dr The fed doesn't have to ask for you to return something that belongs to them.  They just come and get it.

This.  I'm tired of coddling these assholes.  "Ooh, we can't go after Trump or his admin for crimes committed because his crazy base might do something,"  Fark that.  If he did illegal shiat and we have evidence of said illegal shiat, take his fat orange ass down.  We don't give in to international terrorists, why do we keep bending over backwards for the homegrown dipwads out there?  Because they're white?  A few drone strikes in Idaho and these shiatbirds will get the idea.

While how they knew there were tranches of docs missing might be explained by simple accounting, how they knew exactly where they could find them despite, as you said, the Trump team's stubborn unwillingness to cooperate, is one of the more interesting questions of this entire affair. Someone is talking to the DOJ.

Granted, it may just be some unwitting drone(s) still employed by the executive branch that muled them there in the first place.

Well livestock salt comes in either 50 lb blocks or bags and you can get a whole pallet which is either half ton or full ton.  So we could say a pallet of salt.  Or go next step up which would be a tractor trailer load.  That's probably more appropriate.
