I had an ... unspeakable friend who thought it was funny to ride around and shoot random windows with a BB rifle. You know that teenage friend, someone you were better than because you knew what being a scumbag was. So he got popped for shooting out all sorts of window fronts, along with his driver. He tried to contact me on Facebook, solid noooooo.

/but he had great weeed

Seems like they're an inclusive sex shop a la Good Vibrations and Toys in Babeland. I'd trust the employees/patrons of this business before I'd trust the attendees of the local church.

I found it amusing that Texas was so prudish on certain things, but "Condoms To Go" sex shops were all over Dallas. But don't you dare get an abortion.

Pennsylvania is even funnier. 1/2 mile out of any incorporated township you'll see signs for a porn store. Then you'll see a sign for an incorporated township, then township, then a few miles on a sign for another porn shop.

Children are the ones who *need* sex education. Especially when the state won't provide it. I sent my kids to this:

Even though the store at 1302 Commercial St. remains closed indefinitely, its employees are being paid and merchandise orders can be made online.

An artist planned to paint a mural to decorate the plywood that city of Bellingham workers used to cover the shattered windows.

In addition, Wink Wink plans to have the stones used by the vandals painted and then auctioned as a fundraiser for Whatcom Youth Pride, an annual series of events sponsored by Bellingham Public Schools, where Mason is an elected member of the board of education.

"We're hoping to turn something that's so violent into something beautiful and give back to our community," Mason said.

My faith in humanity is restored.

For several years, Downtown Bellingham has promoted its #BKind campaign in the face of racist and antisemitic attacks against local businesses.

And....it's gone.

Then maybe you should be teaching science-based, inclusive sexual education starting in 6th grade to get to people in puberty and in 9th through 12th grade to teach people how to care for themselves and keep themselves safe.

It's pretty telling that the right considers classes "grooming children" when they're teaching the 6 year old kid how to say no to Uncle Joe when he pervs on them asleep or gives them the bad touch and tells them "your body is not their property"

At least the condoms-to-go thing is kind of internally consistent, encouraging prophylactic use as a preventative.

Situation with towns and sex stores, towns have control over business licensing within their annexed limits but not in the surrounding counties.  If counties have very lax rules for business licensing then again, not really a surprise.  Town can't enforce against a business that isn't within its jurisdiction.

Seriously, the whole point any of us exist is sex - to paraphrase, a zygote is a gamete's way of producing more gametes, and everything that zygote does aids & abets that. Teaching kids about sex - that it's what we do to make more kids, that it can be fun as hell in the process but that, because it makes more kids, we need to do it responsibly and with an understanding of everything involved - is of paramount importance.

This. If you want to reduce the demand for abortion services, sex education and birth control education should be celebrated. No one is a fan of abortion. I believe there is a common ground which would allow pro life groups and organizations focused on reproductive health services to cooperate in educational curriculums that communicate about pregnancy prevention. There is room for abstinence discussions there, though realism should be prioritized. Pregnancy planning would seem to be a goal both sides should support.

Problem, no two people completely agree what's appropriate.

I'd suggest younger-ages curricula focus on having healthy relationships, and recognizing and then remedying unhealthy ones, but I'm sure that some would identify unhealthy relationships in their own household and parents who perpetuate the problems would object.

For middle ages once puberty sets in, a combination of practical pregnancy prevention and looking towards the future, describing how one's choices affect one's later options, and how for sex, one can't really take it back.  Choosing poorly on the person-part and then choosing poorly on the prevention part can have profound implications.  But some would object that this is still encouraging sex and equipping adolescents to have it without consequences.  Nevermind they don't need any encouragement and do it despite the consequences.

For older teenagers it would probably be about striking balance in life, not letting sex or new romantic partners distract from one's deeper goals, and to maintain sense of self while in relationships.  Some would object that I'm encouraging young women to think for themselves rather than becoming baby factories.

Yeah, this is exactly right. Me, I didn't really even know what sex was until sex ed. Now I can't get enough. But that never would have happened if some irresponsible adult didn't tell me to wear a condom.

Seriously, that's what you sound like.

Someone has to teach kids about sex. Do we wait until they're driving to do driver's ed?
Denmark has the right idea. They have the lowest teen pregnancy, and abortion rates in the world, because they have the best sex ed. I don't know about STD rates, but I'd guess they're pretty low too.

The pushback from the right against teaching kids about sex is bullshiat. The real issue they have with it is if a kid knows about sex, then they will know when they are being raped. It's the same reason they don't want women to have rights.

I had sex ed in 5th grade, 7th grade, and 10th.

5th grade was all diagrams, terms, and don't let people touch your parts, tell someone if they do.
7th grade was all about hormones, body hair, smells, and urges and not touching each other without permission.
10th grade was all about STDs and Pregancy.

Seemed pretty straightforward to me even as a child.

I agree with you. The room which exists for compromise is small and not everyone wants to stand there. I persist in my belief that reasonable people can begin reminding the country how compromise works. Not all issues allow moral compromise, and I believe women's reproductive rights are included in that definition. But diminishing unplanned pregnancy could be a mutual goal separate from the issue of legal access to abortions.

I'd love to see a series on people who are identified as being opponents over specific issues that focus on the areas they agree on and give the opportunity to discuss solutions based on those agreements. Maybe get Dolly or another universally approved media figure to host.

Yes, that is very true. We do exist because of sex and sex is what allows us to continue on. I don't feel that a sex store is the most healthy venue for children to learn about such things anymore than I feel that McDonald's would be a healthy place for kids to learn about healthy eating.

I'm a grandfather (about to be a great-grandfather in a few months), and it just feels creepy for a sex store to be doing this.
