They are willing to try anything.

Except pay people more, I guess.

/or accept that eliminating your commute can give a person back hours a week of their life. Dumping a 20 minute commute gives you 7 more days of free time every year.

Have you considered giving the $3,400,000 to the workers?

Commuting in Montreal is horrible. Their transit system is adequate but really only once you're within sight of the island.

No commute = more happiness = happy people are better workers.

But it's more important to go sit in a cube at an internet-connected computer because your manager gets all of his emotional validation from peacocking around the office.

What part of "More pay, useful benefits, and a tolerable commute" sounded confusing?

Difficulty: It's Canada.

Why? Instead, it went to the administrators who made this six whole pieces of artwork happen, and the corporations with which those administrators worked to make more workers show up & spend money downtown.

The installations will be placed in private and semi-private spaces in hopes of having the downtown core humming back to pre-pandemic days.

That's not going to happen. This smacks of "we'll buy art you can keep in your lobbies and courtyards, corporate owners, if you'll just convince more of your workers to spend money downtown" manipulation, and has very farking little to do with "enticing" anyone other than business owners & politicians to snuggle just a little bit farking closer in their bed of lies and financial iniquity.

And we're always the last when the cream is shared out
For the worker is working when the fat cat's about

For the first time in its history, the Montreal Tower atop the iconic Olympic stadium is now 100 per cent occupied rented.

FTFY.

Initiatives like this will help the economic relaunch needed after the two-year business lull, he says.

It wasn't a "business lull," assholes, it was (and still is) a goddamned pandemic.

So, a bunch of shiat that I can't look at or interact with because I'm in a cubicle, and my 30 minute lunch break is barely enough time to wolf something down?

This is like the most basic logic: get 40-90 minutes of my life back every day, work in an environment that I specifically designed to function as best as possible for me, and not get bothered by Cody every six minutes about literally everything in the world I don't care about, or not do all of those things and walk past a pretty sculpture if I'm lucky enough that my commute goes past it?

How can they seriously not get this? (Yes, I know they do and that it's willful)

What a stupid farking world.

I resisted going WAH. Didn't think I'd like it. Finally forced to do it. I bought a microphone, good webcam, lightning, a motorized standing desk, proper desk chair--ALL on my own dime--to make it more palatable. Now that I've finally become more productive than I was at the office, they want me to move back? At this point, it's a deal breaker. I don't have to get stuck talking to co-workers about their jacuzzi problems for 45 minutes at a time. The "cafeteria" is much closer at home. I'm getting an extra hour of sleep.

I was never at my desk all day long--bathroom breaks, making tea, talking to coworkers, etc. The only drawback now is, if my Teams status flips to "away" for more than 5 minutes, I get a text "reminder", which is pretty infuriating, but I'll live with it. But I'm done with cube-farms for now.

Among other results for "mouse jiggler".  That kind doesn't plug into your computer so IT won't detect it.

If you're on Windows, download AutoHotKey. Write the following macro to an innocuous file, like "MorningRoutine.ahk". Start it every morning.

It sends a WM_MOUSEMOVE message to Windows every 5 minutes you're idle. Doesn't actually move the mouse or interfere with what you're doing. It's what I use when I'm doing research on another machine, but still need to let my peers on Teams know that I'm still there & can chat with me.

Yay! Glad I stressed sitting in traffic so I could pay $20 to park so I could get out in shiatty weather so I could glace at a sculpture on the way to a small cubicle where I can surrender my last vestiges of self worth and privacy. Totally worth it

Oh, and the artist who got paid bank for making a giant cock ring works from home. I think I get what his art is trying to say to me now.
