CZE v. SVK, the Velvet Divorce game.

Notes before I have to go to work for a bit:

- Latvia takes the place of Nazi Russia, who had been in the tournament when they tried to play it in December; but was kicked out because of Putin's folly in Ukraine (Belarus is also suspended by the IIHF)

- Anyone who was eligible to play in December is still eligible to play now (it is officially a under-20 tournament). Some players who were on the December rosters aren't there this time.

- All records from December were thrown out.

- All games are in Edmonton for this event (Red Deer had been co-hosts for the December event)

- And there will still be a WJC this December. That will be hosted by Halifax, Nova Scotia and Moncton, New Brunswick

Hopefully there will be "Exchanging words of a non-pacifist nature."
That phrase brought to us by an EPL announcer over the weekend.

I always liked "using unparliamentary language"

Not much in the way of handbags in international hockey.
Lots of smell my gloves.

The third period of the CZE-SVK game has been very heated. Lots if penalties.
/you might say it's been a biatchippy.

One game into the tournament and we already have an automatic entry onto the All-Name Team and a hat trick.  Pic from January, but he's back for more in August!

I'm going to guess that his dad's name is Ivan Ivan and if he has a son, it will be Ivan Ivan Ivan Ivan

/I had to look to make sure these games weren't in a bubble with so few in the stands

I just looked online and apparently, they're only selling tickets for the lower level and even for tomorrow's Canada-Latvia game; there's a ton of tickets still available. Though that could easily change overnight as people realize that this is going on.

The low ticket sales could be explained by two things:
1) This is not the time of year people generally think about going inside to see a hockey game. It's summer in Edmonton. Summer is short. Get outside and enjoy it.
2) Even rabid hockey fans there won't care too much about games that don't include Canada.

First of all, it's "Glendale" and secondly; those assholes are dead to me. I look forward to that town declaring bankruptcy in the next few years because they still have to pay off the bonds on that arena.

To be fair, I don't thing Greendale has a hockey team. They go for other sports:

The Coyotes only have 2 prospects in this tournament... and they're about to play each other. #3 pick in last month's draft Logan Cooley on Team USA, and for Germany, D-man Maksymilian Szuber

Well, a few more butts in seats for USA-Germany

14 unanswered shots by the USA and finally, a goal

COOLEY!

2-0 with more PP time to go

So a USA goal is waived off on the ice for the puck being played with a high stick, they review it and apparently determine a German stick is what hit the puck high and give the goal. Then the German coach challenges for goalie interference and is successful, taking the goal away.

And that took around 10 minutes to play out.
