At this point, I'm afraid that's not enough. Him being able to walk free after everything is not enough of a deterrent for the crowd of people willing to continue to carry the torch for him.

Either confirm that fraudulent elector schemes and armed mobs forcefully sitting their own heads of state carries severe penalties or this is all over.

No, the media is not missing it, and we lucky few here are reveling in it. Some of us are edging to it.
Steve Bannon, OTOH, was just whining and ranting  non-stop about it on Fox.

After all the criming TFG did, if this one weird trick is what screws him from running again, it'll be like when Capone was busted for tax evasion instead of all his murdering and racketeering. Except much better.

Man, this is a good day.

You would think him forcing the Mar a Lago staffers to fight Barron for sport would be enough.

Not to be a Debbie-downer here, but there's no way this law would hold up in court when it comes to the Presidency.  The constitution spells out pretty clearly the requirements necessary to be allowed to run for President, and the constitution also has a specific procedure that congress has to undertake to ban a President from ever holding office again, i.e., impeachment and two-thirds support in the senate.  Unfortunately I don't see any way that the courts would hold that a President could be bared from holding office by a law that only required a simply majority to come into being.  They'd clearly see it as an end-run around the constitution.

some things take time. for bigger fish - one has to really make sure the hook is set , and that line is stronger enough to handle it. And then reeling it in . That can take a long time.

There was a reality show about catching tuna off the East Coast that showed this - even the dogs on one boat got bored until *boom* - a strike .

I just hope they land this whale

Trump wasn't going to win another election. Him seeing the inside of a prison for one of his many crime would be a lot more significant. Otherwise it means that some people are above the law.

yeah Trump and the GOP accusing Biden of doing something that Trump did all the time is laughable. Did they just forget the whole "loyalty" test and musical chairs because of it in the DoJ? Or that Trump sicced the DoJ on Hunter Biden? Created a whole new special investigative dept to deal with digging up dirt on Hunter.

Solid reasoning, but does the Constitution say that's the ONLY way to bar a future President?

Donald Trump isn't currently the President. He isn't immune to prosecution outside of impeachment any longer.

So if he can't hold office, can he still run for office and continue the grift?

Oh wait, of course he could. See: Cruz, Ted.

He needs to be behind bars.

With the "sola scriptura" Supreme Court we have, the answer is effectively yes.

If he continues to grift the rubes campaign to be re-elected, the funds that go to him are that much fewer dollars available for rival candidates.

Honest question; Is it possible that individual states can refuse to put Trump on the ballot if/when he runs? Assuming of course he's running under the Republican banner - if he tries to run as independent or establish a new party that's a lot of paperwork to file and odds are he'll mess that up all by himself.

But is it a possible thing that some state election boards will consider him ineligible and simply not put a candidate from a major national political party on the ballot?

Given that federal oversight has been gouged out of the election process as much as possible by the GOP and that they insist that states can do whatever they want now, it could be a thing, but that would mean GOPers give one fark about consistency or integrity... so I'd not count on it to work particularly well, and almost surely not so once the batshiat SCOTUS got it.

You mean how so far Trump hasn't been personally connected to inciting a mob to riot that ended up killing two cops, and using that mob as cover for an attempt to kill senior government officials?

Yeah, well, that ship has sailed.
