(Some Guy)   Multiple fatality lightning strikes like the one that killed those D.C. tourists are very, very rare -- but then again, most lightning strikes don't happen in the immediate vicinity of Dark Brandon   (pokonews.com) divider line

Wait. You have an issue with quality prose like this?

Because the storm drew nearer, lightning struck the tree, killing three and calmly injuring six.

Man. High standards.

Look I'm just saying:

When a bolt hits a tree, the electrical cost tends to unleash itself outward in what is named the bottom present.

Last time I was standing that close to a lightning strike I left a "bottom present" alright.

One of the weirder things that happened in the late 70s in my community was that a bolt of lightning killed two kids playing soccer at the local elementary school. It was a pretty clear day. The kids were out a recess and BAM.

What is weird about it is that it happened. And that was that. The ambulances came and left. No trauma counseling. No school cancellation. No vigils or sermons or ceremony. Everyone went to school the next day.

It was the era of kids on milk cartons. There were these random events and they just happened. I find things to be very different now.

Late 90s I recall a case of a soccer field full of people getting struck by lightning and you basically see both teams knocked to the ground at once in the video. Can't remember exactly when or where just remember seeing the video on the news

It's English, Jim, but not as we know it...

"Bushes, not like safer shelters akin to one's automobile or a well-built construction, merely should not constructed to face up to the brunt of a lightning strike. These sheltering beneath a tree can turn into victims of the bottom present or a facet flash, which is when an electrical present jumps from the much-taller tree to the individuals sheltering simply toes from its trunk. "

There are buildings all around that park (it's only about one square block) and while you can't go south (White House) the other sides are open. Getting rained on isn't hard. Getting hit by lightning is. Get your ass into a building.

Strange town - you'll be walking the 8 blocks from the ramp to Panera to grab a sammich, & there's Georgetown University.... and where they fit the basketball courts let alone anything else besides maybe a 30 chair classroom.

The lightning strike that killed three vacationers and critically wounded a D.C. resident on Thursday was uncommon not simply because lightning fatalities have turn into more and more uncommon in the US - however as a result of a single strike hardly ever kills greater than two individuals.

This "sentence" caused a small lightening strike in my brain.

The granddaughter of someone I know was struck by lightning a couple of weeks ago. She only survived because her father performed CPR on her while they waited for the ambulance.

This is the closest I've ever come to knowing someone who was struck by lightning.

My uncle was killed by lightning in 1965. Golf course shelter was a concrete block X holding up the roof. The lightning went through the blocks to the ground. 4 dead, 6 injured.
Lightning hit a tree next to the shelter, then jumped to the peak of the shelter.

Highly effective lightning strikes also can merely blow timber aside, turning their wooden into doubtlessly harmful projectiles. Automobiles and well-built properties as an alternative channel the electrical present from strikes into safely into the bottom.

I think the whole article was just someone (or a bot) trying to stuff the word "merely" into an article as many times as possible.
