Or microbes and viruses that have not seen the light of day since the last ice age

Yeah, maybe there's oil or gas there!
More oil! Wouldn't that be great!

maybe we shouldn't just keep letting billionaires plunder the earth? because they're really bad at keeping it habitable.

No ones plundering Greenland.

Its not Africa, and its not the 19th century.

What were you even imagening? Denmark has a farking army, how would Bezos be able to plunder anything?

Finally some good news, I was afraid the impending climate catastrophe would limit investor options.

Crisis averted.

The government of Greenland and Denmark have approved these natural resource surveys to raise tax revenue if mines are established.
Every county on earth does this.
Many or most of the surveys are for electric vehicle battery materials, so it will help fight global warming too.

What "solution" to the crisis?
There's no f**king "solution".
This was over 25 years ago - it's already waaaaaay too late.

Bu..bu..but the NATIVE GREENLANDERS (all 60,000 or so of them) are being OPPRESSED by the CRUEL COLONIAL DANISH OPPRESSORS!!!! The United States of Amerika must send 250,000 combat troops and assorted technical experts to stake out all the trillions of mineral and oil deposits and the likely locations for a Northwest Passage Eastern Terminus, Resupply, and Transit Tax collection point LIBERATE ALL THOSE POOR NATIVES FROM THEIR CRUEL COLONIAL OPPRESSORS.

^^^ The official government take in 2028 should Trump or any other Republican take the White House and Congress in 2024.

Sadly, it might also be the official government take even if Democrats hold those offices. Money know$ no party.

Most seriously: the combination of Greenland thawing and a NW Passage appearing is like setting out a giant hot steaming apple pie fresh from the oven, on the windowsill, in bear country.

In a world of GCC and more expensive resource extraction, there WILL BE a hot war over them at some point in the next 20-30 years.

And that war could involved anyone, though I'm personally expecting a sundering of the US and Canada (and maybe the UK) with the rest of NATO. Greenland and the now-appearing Northwest Passage are just too big as prizes. Monopoly control of both of them literally means trillions of dollars in revenues over the coming decades to the countr(y/ies) that control them.

Yep.

Unless Greenland plays the long game, to accelerate global warming, so it can sell even more.

I don't understand what you're saying, all those countries will attack Denmark?

I doubt it. And anyways, Canada and Denmark is already dividing the border.

No, NATO (which includes Denmark) squaring off against Canada and the US, You really have to have some idea of the amount of money involved here.

I doubt it. And anyways, Canada and Denmark is already dividing the border.

In a world of diminishing resources and GCC, do you really think that Denmark can sustain a claim here?

This reminds me of something a learned a couple months ago. There's an Islamic end times prophecy that says the Euphrates River will dry up and reveal a mountain of gold. Millions will run towards the mountain to claim it's wealth, but everyone running towards it will kill each other along the way ensuring that 99 out of 100 people will die trying to claim it and everyone trying to claim it thinks they will be the ones to survive. I'm not a true believer in end times prophecies, but I really can't think of a better metaphor than that to explain this. The farking river that literally feeds our civilization is gone, but look at all this bitcoin I own! I can finally buy my lambo!
