So they'll be closer to just missing a playoff spot than the basement.

Currently forecasting this for 2023 Playoffs in the East:
Atlantic:
1. Tampa Bay
2. Toronto
3. Ottawa
4. Florida (WC)
5. Detroit (WC)

Metropolitan:
1. NY Rangers (Top East)
2. Carolina
3. Pittsburgh

Boston I have at sixth. Can't go higher than third if the teams above them struggle. Probably be in better interest to start a rebuild, but they're probably staring at Pittsburgh instead of San Jose, thinking, "Yeah, we can squeeze one more year or so with this cast."

/Red Wings upset NY Rangers in first round. Colorado with President's Trophy with unusual, easy Central Division. Carolina and Colorado in Finals.
//Had NY Islanders and Columbus as the teams barely missing the playoffs in the Eastern Conference, guess I can add Boston.

Gosh, all they need to do is re-sign Chara for one more go-round on the Steel Wheelchairs tour.

So he will B there next season then.

1) I don't want Sweeney anywhere near a rebuild or a draft board
2) Nothing will happen until they miss the playoffs a few years in a row. The Jacobs want that sweet sweet playoff cash. Don't think they care about winning a Cup, just as long as they get playoff gate for a series or two.

They are money-whores, not an ownership eager to win. 2011 was a total fluke in the grand scheme of their ownership.

I'd flip Ottawa and Florida.  Solid list though.

The east is going to be brutal.  The Atlantic brutaler.  Based on the way they finished, you can't discount Buffalo either.

Watch Sweeney flip him to Toronto at the deadline.

If the Wings and Sens take the next steps that they've been promising, the Atlantic will be the best / most competitive division in the NHL next season. I can't farkin' wait. LGRW!!!

Since most of the payment for him and Krejci are in performance bonuses, like if they play 10 games or more, it's a case of deferring the cap-hit until next season.
