I think why people forget that there will be big warning signs for a full on invasion is a combination of movies and stuff that show similar huge events suddenly happening without any warning, and news corporations desperate for eyeballs screaming for attention. "Woah, could WW3 kick off TODAY?! Here's some asshole in a suit pretending to be an expert!"

All Taiwan has to do is wire up TSMC with charges and threaten to blow the chip fabs if the Chinese invade. It would basically send the world economy into a tailspin, but it would hurt China the worst by shutting down production of a LOT of consumer electronics in the mainland.

That's the biggest card Taiwan has to play right now. They could basically put China's economy on a deadman's switch.

Taiwan is an ideological threat to the CCP, as it is proof that the Chinese people are entirely capable of governing themselves effectively, and don't need the likes of totalitarian control to achieve prosperity.

Additionally, there is the concept of 'Face' at the center of mainland Chinese society, and Xi losing face would undermine his authority. Ever wonder why the CCP overreacts in response to anybody anywhere publicly voicing any criticism, no matter how minor, at China? Face is why.

Know your enemy.

Lolol. No. Speaking as someone who was doing a Ph.D. in Asian studies, the Chinese Communist Party's legitimacy is based on reclaiming Taiwan if anything striking the fab plant would make the Chinese attack sooner since the Chinese would have less to lose if the Chinese computer manufacturers could no longer worry about not getting their chips.

It is to their benefit to allow Taiwan to prosper and produce, and to biatch and moan and act the injured party about it. The Chinese don't generally do emotional, impulsive things.
They will leave this situation as it is for the nonce - it's working for them.

Yep. They'll openly say as much through their mouthpieces.

"I'm not sure if it's good to have freedom or not, I'm really confused now. If there is too much freedom, like the way Hong Kong is today, it is very chaotic; Taiwan is also chaotic. I'm gradually beginning to feel that we Chinese need to be controlled." - Jackie Chan

A conventional war between the US and China results in massive famines and structural collapse in China within two years, and a nuclear war between the two does similar things globally. A conventional invasion of Taiwan without US involvement destroys TSMC and likely shuts down commercial shipping through the Taiwan straits for long enough to cause famine and civil unrest in northern China, even if the invasion succeeds well enough to prevent partisan activity. The CCP knows this, regardless of the opinions of the gutter oil brigade.

"China is going to invade Taiwan!!!!"

With farking what, exactly?  Just how do the knuckleheads stoking up fears about this foresee the Chinese conducting an operation torch? What capacity does the PRC currently have in place to conduct an amphibious landing of over 1 million troops in the face of hostile fire? And how are the Chinese supposed to succeed quickly enough in doing so to prevent Operation Broken Nest?

If you want to make the case that the PRC will enforce a blockade with their navy, while making the massive bet the USA will do nothing but squeak, I can at least listen to that. Lol, the Chinese understand that modern economies are memetic. The perception of strength is actual strength when it comes to fiat currency.

Blue MAGA?  🤔

That's an interesting enough concept for me to break my "don't feed the trolls" rule.

If that were a thing I believe it would begin with universal health care, guaranteed right of privacy, automatic voter registration... And work up from there to a bunch of other reforms, then implement a somewhat generous UBI.

You know, an overall goal of getting as close as we can to a post scarcity society with our level of technology.

Now THAT would be a great America.

==============

Blue MAGA. I just might steal that one.

Yes, blue MAGA are the Vote Blue No Matter Who crowd who do none of that, but continue the usual policies of pandering to big oil (the latest "win" for Biden), war mongering (like they're doing with this useless Taiwan bullshiat that could have been done with a phone call), and etc. The people who share "Dark Brandon" memes on Twitter and unironically call themselves either khive or ImWithHer. The type who donate to fascists for an "easy win" which will just backfire and get more fascists in office. The type that claim "Bernie bros" or "progressives" caused them to lose but also make the huge logical leap to claim "we don't need the progressive vote".

You can try to claim I'm a troll I guess. I just don't see how that isn't a cult, like how red MAGA is also a cult. It's this out of touch nationalism combined with a completely detached from reality view of everything, the only constant of which is using their position of power to require others to fall in line or "the other side" will win.

The MAGAs are a mirror of each other's politicult stupidity.

Remember that China relies A LOT on foreign oil. When China finally does invade Taiwan, we'll shut down the straight of Malacca and they will have about 90 days of oil available. They will either have to win, sue for peace, or shutdown power to their industries to keep their ships fuelled.

That is when WWIII becomes a concern.

They didn't invade Hong Kong, they reunited with Hong Kong peacefully then farked them over by limiting then essentially eliminating self rule.

I entirely expect Taiwan to go the same way. No armed invasion, but a peaceful reunification based on false promises before China ultimately clamps down on those freedoms in a couple of years and imposes their control/authority.

It won't happen by invasion, they would get nothing but a giant expensive problem out of it with no upside except passing America off and causing an immediate global chip shortage that ultimately would undermine their goals as the western world retooled, something which is ultimately already started. And before you say causing a global chip shortage sounds like a great idea, keep in mind their economy would go off a cliff too, likely in just as cataclysmic of a fashion with global demand for any product taking a massive shiat as a result. The real state of the world is we're too interconnected and pissing around with stuff is just as likely to screw your own nation over as some adversary.
