They don't intend to invade.
Taiwan is worth a great deal more to the PRC as it is than it would be as a territory.
What idiot wants to trade a prosperous, self-sufficient neighbor for a few million hungry mouths to feed?
Especially if that neighbor can be used as a foil in one's own internal politics.
Get real.

Yeah, I just do see them doing now. Especially after seeing how much it strengthens NATO and EU after Russia started it. Not to mention China needs computer chips and the ROC is just going to blow that shiat the fark up once they land as burned earth policy.

I think why people forget that there will be big warning signs for a full on invasion is a combination of movies and stuff that show similar huge events suddenly happening without any warning, and news corporations desperate for eyeballs screaming for attention. "Woah, could WW3 kick off TODAY?! Here's some asshole in a suit pretending to be an expert!"

It is to their benefit to allow Taiwan to prosper and produce, and to biatch and moan and act the injured party about it. The Chinese don't generally do emotional, impulsive things.
They will leave this situation as it is for the nonce - it's working for them.

We're at the point of human history where WMDs exist, but because of natural escalation and mutually assured destruction, we've gone back to like 1880s warfare.

Yep. Pelosi cost them a great deal of face. Their blog/Twitter scene is uncharacteristically embarrassed and angry with the Party. So of course the Party throws another tantrum. It's what they do.

"[The government] only chants slogans loudly while greatly disappointing the public with its actual actions," one person wrote on Sina Weibo, China's equivalent of Twitter.

For reference, there had been loud calls for China to shoot Pelosi's plane down.

The world is going to have a major problem over the next century, dealing with the consequences of China's society-wide fascist militarization of a billion and a half people.

China wants Taiwan under its thumb but it's not going to use military force to make it happen. It's literally a worthless island if they have to bomb it into submission and endure economic sanctions against the mainland for taking it by force while also having Taiwan itself lose its special trade statuses.

Beyond that they would have a massive insurgency that would take decades of very bloody occupation to fully put down.

The only way China gets what it wants is a peaceful reunification, and Russia has already proven how effective exploiting voters using social media can be. Right now China is just saber rattleing because trying to intimidate and stir up the western forces is more beneficial to their long term goals than flipping the island.

I kid you guys not, but I have an interview for an economic assistant position at the Taiwanese embassy in Tel Aviv on Friday. On top of that, I am currently working at the only maritime think tank in the country (I live in Israel), and I am now doing a project predicting what India would do if Taiwan is invaded. If the Chinese try to take over Taiwan before the interview and project are finished, I will be pissed on many different levels than I would have just a few months ago.

Taiwan is an ideological threat to the CCP, as it is proof that the Chinese people are entirely capable of governing themselves effectively, and don't need the likes of totalitarian control to achieve prosperity.

Additionally, there is the concept of 'Face' at the center of mainland Chinese society, and Xi losing face would undermine his authority. Ever wonder why the CCP overreacts in response to anybody anywhere publicly voicing any criticism, no matter how minor, at China? Face is why.

Know your enemy.

All Taiwan has to do is wire up TSMC with charges and threaten to blow the chip fabs if the Chinese invade. It would basically send the world economy into a tailspin, but it would hurt China the worst by shutting down production of a LOT of consumer electronics in the mainland.

That's the biggest card Taiwan has to play right now. They could basically put China's economy on a deadman's switch.

Lolol. No. Speaking as someone who was doing a Ph.D. in Asian studies, the Chinese Communist Party's legitimacy is based on reclaiming Taiwan if anything striking the fab plant would make the Chinese attack sooner since the Chinese would have less to lose if the Chinese computer manufacturers could no longer worry about not getting their chips.

Yep. They'll openly say as much through their mouthpieces.

"I'm not sure if it's good to have freedom or not, I'm really confused now. If there is too much freedom, like the way Hong Kong is today, it is very chaotic; Taiwan is also chaotic. I'm gradually beginning to feel that we Chinese need to be controlled." - Jackie Chan

2022-08-08 12:39:53 PM
Just like we've found out in Ukraine, totalitarian military forces are aimed at their own people, instead of any real outward use. They require a beaten and ground-to-dust population to be useful.

And if you'd believe it, in these totalitarian states, there's even *more* corruption than our own MIC! Honestly, with the showing that Russia has been delivering us against a "modern" military, I'm wondering why the whole place isn't upside down already.

A conventional war between the US and China results in massive famines and structural collapse in China within two years, and a nuclear war between the two does similar things globally. A conventional invasion of Taiwan without US involvement destroys TSMC and likely shuts down commercial shipping through the Taiwan straits for long enough to cause famine and civil unrest in northern China, even if the invasion succeeds well enough to prevent partisan activity. The CCP knows this, regardless of the opinions of the gutter oil brigade.

I'm thinking China is trying to rope a dope the USA. Taking a page out of Reagan's play book...Reagan reasoned about the USSR, iirc, we just outspend them and their economy will collapse, no need for direct military confrontation.

So China watching the massive deficit spending in the USA and hey, let's terrify the warhawks over there and get them to spend even more on the military...IDK, I don't get paid to be a geopolitical analyst.

Taiwan will be invaded, it is just a matter of time. However, things like TSMC are "wired for sound", and will be useless. China will get millions of pissed off people who will either resist, or just do the bare minimum and try to exit to first world countries.

Taiwan will not buy into the bullshiat the the CCP is trying to sell.

Taiwan will be China's Afghanistan.

Ideally, China will be boycotted, isolated, and eventually go back to being an agrarian society.

Lol, the Chinese understand that modern economies are memetic. The perception of strength is actual strength when it comes to fiat currency.

The US's deficit spending doesn't really matter, especially when it's the Americans themselves that own the lion's share of the debt.

First-world war posturing is so pathetically transparent now.

"Oh there's money? We'll just lightly bomb this peninsula instead of starting WW3...we're totally at the first-world table still right?"

-everyone but US and China and with Taiwan US and China are playing this pathetic PR game...it's been going on since before I was born. I'm farking old.

WW3 and black chopper death camps have been an integral part of my life because my parents were okay with alternative media sources, but honestly these just seem like CIA and KGB talking points from the 70s. None of this type of paranoia has anything to do with real life on the ground in 2022
