This might be an exceedingly broad over generalization, but my admittedly limited understanding of current Japanese hot takes about their actions during WW2 is that the stories are either 1) overblown/lies or 2) not as big a deal as people make them out to be because the Japanese are superior to everyone and their victims should have been grateful just for the opportunity to suffer under their control.

Strikingly similar to some Americans hot takes about 1865. Or the UK's hot takes about the 1500s. Or China's evergreen hot take.

Hmm, it appears all people across time and space are assholes, or contain large numbers of them.

They still deny the Rape (Massacre) of Nanjing (formerly known as Nanking).

As well as the comfort women system. Don't even attempt to bring up Unit 731 and the absolutely horrendous Mengele level stuff they got up to.

Dick move, but not surprising that the Japanese government would go out of their way to be passive-aggressive assholes toward Koreans. Though Koreans would probably do something similar given the opportunity.

uh... so like a couple dozen people too old to even realize they are still alive?

Japan is kind of historically a dick... shaped kind of like a dick.

A weird dick.

A radioactive anime dick.

Dick.

It took me living in "Chinatown" (which was mixed east Asian of course... not exclusively Chinese) for a huge chunk of my adult life to understand how freaking much everyone in that region hates each other... to like straight up racist levels that your general stupid white dood could never comprehend otherwise.

It's the whole "They all look the same" sh*t.

We know nothing, Jon Snow.

This is true.  Even among the Chinese it's a thing.  I mean amongst themselves.  Han consider all other Chinese ethnicities inferior and are despised for it.

Just like the caste stuff in India that Modi and his Hindvatu goons are trying to revive.

Those pricks are terrorizing Canadian nationals who dare criticize them.

Straight up death threats and attacking their families still at home.

China does the same thing here and it pisses me off.

They are with us now and under our protection and live with our freedoms.

It makes me very f*cking angry that sh*t follows them here after all they went through to get the f*ck away from it.

Sad stuff but I ain't naive.

We've always been hateful, tribalistic assholes.

THAT... is what i fight against.

All this fiff faffery can bugger the hell off in the face of that very historic and pervading existential threat shooting lightning bolts into our conscious mind from our ancient lizard brain instead of vice versa.

We all feel that sh*t.

Denying it a foothold is the hallmark of a civilized and rational human being.

Fleetingly rare to be sure but damn... seems like we are on a backslide on that particular evolutionary file.

And that is coming from me... a complete f*cking raged out idiot with no education.

Just sick of the hate, violence and lies.

Peace.

Standard Fascist and crimes against humanity logic.

What did everybody else get? Does anybody know?

I mean, everyone else in the Japanese isles forced to bow down to the emperor, devote their lives to the war effort, have their freedoms taken away, be forbidden to travel or change work, and be forced to be away from their families? What did they get?

I am very suspicious of people who look at war and honestly believe that there are winners and losers, and that a little more hate is going to make all of us better off. They wind up being fascists and warmongers who delight in getting others to give up their dreams to settle some score from a century ago.

There are 60 countries devoted to liberal democracy and about 100 that have gone to the dark side. Let's not spend all of our time muddying the waters and split up the alliances of today based on mistakes made during that time of imperialism and colonialism that the world went through about three generations ago.

Bugerz: As well as the comfort women system.

They were prostitutes. They came to work as prostitutes just like camp followers throughout history and after Japan lost the war they continued to work as prostitutes for the American army and South Korean army.

The problems came during Japan's rapid expansion when they reached areas that didn't previously have massive concentrations of soldiers and didn't have enough prostitutes to satisfy demand so the Imperial Japanese army sent out soldiers with orders to essentially kidnap girls and enslave them. In those cases it really was like people describe. But in Tokyo? In Seoul? Prostitutes all. And that's what the majority of civilians and soldiers would have witnessed and experienced.

They say one but mean two. Imagine if America were still a democracy but a majority kept electing the same party of right-wing assholes for 75 years. Like Republicans without the boner for military spending and without the Jesus nonsense.

This is complete bullshiat. The Japanese took sex slaves from the other Asian countries, especially Korea:

As generalizations go, that's not off the mark.

When Japan and South Korea normalized their diplomatic relations in the 1960s, the Korean strongman (Pak Chung Hee) basically wanted to get it over with quickly and supposedly settled the matter of wartime compensation for a 1 time payment of a few hundred million dollars. That money came at a vital time of currency shortage and was used to fund things like highways and industrial parks. Wartime labor never saw a cent of it.

From the Japanese point of view, this settled the matter and anything further related to reparations was a kind of backsliding. A number of Japanese corporations have been sued in Korean courts over the years, and so the matter continues.

Well, the US helped cover that up. We gave them amnesty/immunity in exchange for all the data from the experiments, and used some of it in our chemical warfare departments.

That is not a mainstream position in Japan. The average Japanese might not remember much from school about WW2 other than that it ended with the atomic bombs, but the Rape of Nanking is mentioned in textbooks used in public schools and Japan's government has consistently acknowledged it.

That doesn't stop Jiiminto from making the claim that it didn't happen. And there is constant downplaying and diminishing of the horrors of the occupation all across East Asia. I'm not going to hold you personally accountable for nihonjinron, but to say that the government isn't responsible or has acquitted themselves well on this is garbage.
