Probably lots of swearing and the "thunk" of D batteries hitting the tree in retaliation.

So a tree fell on the class of '72 ... or at least those who showed up. And a nearby tree tried to eliminate the class of '82 which was gathered nearby apparently.

Or. You know. Does anybody really care? Maybe do a Meetup at a Denny's or something. I never need to see who I went to high school with ever again and that was some years after these chuckleheads.

Maybe do a backyard bbq for the 5 people who care?

Why are trees falling over in parks?

Disease?  Parasites?  Drought?  Anthrocentric epistemology experiments?

That's like 50 years ago. Most people in Philly weren't even alive then.

We humbly request you update your material to something more relevant about us.

There is a solution!

Just looking at that tree, you can see that it is wholly dead or almost entirely dead. When trees die, you have more and more mass above a root system that is less and less likely to hold it up. It is going to come down. Most of the time, it will happen in really cold or windy weather. Rain might soften the root area and bring it down. Usually, probably 99% of the time, there is not a human even near it when it happens.

You can send in crews to monitor standing dead trees where people hang out and either cut them down OR you can just take a lot of mass off the top and leave a stump or spike for woodpeckers and what have you.

But even that small expense is seldom "worth it" for a lot of areas, so camping areas will more or less leave things up to chance unless it is on a well worn trail . This kind of accident should not happen in parks, of course. Entirely preventable? Or bound to happen? It is really the same thing, isn't it?

This is one of those things. A stitch in time saves nine... but who has time for all that stitching in a world with Netflix and football games?

The trouble is they were farmers with attention switching deficit disorder which we really need to start medicating. If they were hunters with a DD they would have seen the trees and the squirrels and the cracked branches in the general shape In condition of all the trees when they were scanned in the forest when they were bored by some conversation being put out by an idiot farmer but no we are the ones that should be medicated

I recently helped clear out some trees for a property owner that is building a new hotel locally. But they hired 3rd rate people to do the falling and I get thwacked by branches. And his crane got stuck.

Goddammitsomuch was the mildest things I said. But I got 2 cords of free firewood so I settled down.
