How young would a U.S. resident have to be right now to live in a time when the stain of this movement and its goals is just a bitter but receded memory?

Age 10, perhaps? So that all the young adult Trumpsters can finally die off in 60 years?

If the GOP takes back power 10 year olds will be lucky to see a free and modern America in their lifetime.

Iran's Islamic revolution happened in 1978. 44 years later they are still in the depths of where that took them.

Germany gave the reigns to the Nazis in 1933, and it was 60 years before they rejoined the modern world.

North Korea formed when Japan surrendered in WWII, and went from being under Russia's boot and an international pariah, to being under a dictator's boot and an international pariah. 77 years later they show no signs of recovery.

Russia - Well they've always been a hot mess, so I'll just pick the russian revolution of 1905 when the current s__thole state came into being. 117 years later they doubled down on being a terrorist backwater state.

Not a good track record for countries recovering from a fall into madness. And before WWII the IS was sort of considered a backwater fundie nutter country, so we'll probably slip right back into that role with ease.

I will say this tho, wrt their gratitude:

He gave them
• immigrant concentration camps at the borders
• Muslim travel bans
• a bunch of judges who won't jail their sons for rape
• state bans on abortions
• more police power/fewer civil rights
• religion back in schools
• book bans

& with a track record like that, they're pretty confident he's gonna give them Jim Crow 2.0.

Mock all you like, but as far as they're concerned, he opened the gates. It all happened because of him. & to top it all off, he made them feel like they were participating in a revolution with him.

& I don't think the rallying cry to combat that is gonna be, "We sorta got a couple things done at the last minute that are a little bit helpful so we hope you like us for it...?" But I'm no Dem campaign strategist, so what do I know...

That's why they support him.

These monsters are out there all but explicitly calling for Democrats and liberals to be murdered in the streets.

There are 2 ways that conmen justify their work to themselves.

The first is that I deserve the money.  The mark has plenty of money and there's no reason I shouldn't have some.

The second is that the mark is going to give his money to someone, so why not me?  Marks are going to give their money to someone.  They can't help it.

Look, if we don't permit Republicans to call for the murder of Democrats then they'll be really upset and won't vote for Democrats next election. We have to take their feelings into consideration. Sure, they might ask for all Democrats to be murdered in the streets, but with strong moderate Democrats tempering the rhetoric, we could talk them down to maybe only murdering half of us. But people like you can continue to make perfect be the enemy of good. I'm to the left of you.

As long as he is as racist as them and goes after "those people" they will let him do anything else. Even fark them over on taxes and medical care

Once you're in a cult, the more people who obviously think your cult is crazy the more special you feel for belonging to the small group that knows 'the truth'.  It reinforces your social attachment to the cult.

I dunno, I've seen some of that too. I've got quite a few citations of people literally calling for LGBTQ* folks to be hunted down and either killed or thrown in camps.

And people still aren't taking it seriously enough.

Yup.

That's why to effectively work towards deprogramming someone the first thing you have to do is earn their trust. Then you have to teach them critical thinking skills.

It's hard AF.

As a furry that frequently tangles with Nazis, I get lots of death threats and stuff. I've become mostly numb to them, because most of them are just angry internet people... But you know, it's still a thing how common death threats have become, and you can never who's all talk, and who's serious.

Sorry, I specifically meant elected officials, not just random conservatives. Yeah, people out there are definitely calling for us to be killed. But I'm sure we're just overreacting still. It's not like anyone has killed us before!
