As a native Angeleno, I have to say that Ralph's is a rather unfortunate name for a place that sells food.

Seems like best case scenario. Suspect attested, no dangerous chase, car recovered, no one got hurt.

I'm impressed that they actually called off pursuit to reduce risk to the public. This was an ideal outcome.

Ontario 🍁 cops don't necessarily chase.

"Police pursuits claimed 77 lives over a decade in Canada, study finds"

Ontario's Police Services Act has a regulation on police pursuits that requires officers to weigh the severity of the crime - the need to catch the suspect - against the risk to public safety.

I heard he tried to turn himself in, to collect a reward.

1. Steal car
2. Turn yourself in
3. Profit!

The cops were like "Go home! Go up to the Valley, then take the 5 south & then switch over to the 110 and let it dump you out at Ralph's where you belong! "

Around here, if it's not a stolen car and they run the plates, they'll just let you go.

And then a couple hours later you get a knock on your door...

Yup and that is absolutely the smartest way to handle it.  Keep an ear out for that vehicle involved in anything that requires a change of priority.  And then.... ding-dong.
