Adds jobs? What about the poor businesses that still can't find shiftless lazy workers to fill their positions? Ever think about that, Mister Smartypants? No, no you didn't! Because you're selfish!

It's not that people don't want to work.

It's that people don't want to work for the slave wages rich people are offering.

You can work as many jobs as you want, poor people, but with inflation, what you earn will never be enough.

Ugh, these jerks.

Inflation is not because of demand! Or at least not demand from us regular people. Its mostly supply constraints (COVID, Russian invasion) and profit gouging (rent/housing, gas, etc)

There are real issues with those who are on fixed incomes such as those who receive Social Security and Pensions. They're monthly income isn't increasing while their purchasing power is decreasing.

Surprised that CNN hasn't splashed that all over their main page yet considering how much of a boner they have for anything anti-Biden.

I'm sorry, that doesn't fit our narrative, we, the global corporations won't stop complaining about this until wages go back to 1985 levels.

2022-08-05 9:45:07 AM
I never did understand why stocks react to good jobs reports as bad news. Why? Good jobs, companies are making money and hiring, economy must be perking, why stonks down? Is it because inflation is going to continue and more rate hikes will be needed? I guess that's it but it seems short sighted.

weddingsinger: profit gouging

Google "oil company Q2 profits" and be prepared to be very angry.

Combined, the top five producers raked in nearly $70,000,000,000 in profits earlier this year, but somehow still manage to receive $3,000,000,000 in government subsidies.

Sadly, nothing will happen as far as windfall tax assessments, since the petroleum industry lobby has nearly everyone in Congress in their pockets.

Gross.

We need a national rent control act. Something like huge taxes on owning more than 2 single family homes, too.

Yes, the important thing is whether or not you can work, not what you can purchase with what you get paid for working.

2022-08-05 9:48:39 AM
The stock market's response to adding hundreds of thousands more jobs than expected? Deep, deep losses. Why? Because the perceived willingness of the Fed to provide businesses with their next fix of cheap money is now more important than the actual fundamentals of the economy.

What a joke

You should also have to be a citizen to own low density zoned residential 4-season properties, and corporations should be banned from owning them at all.

My employer just added a days extra holiday for every year served up to a maximum of 5, plus your birthday off if it falls on a weekday.
They have been eyeing staff retention rates and decided they don't want anyone getting itchy feet.
Oh and an employee of the month prize of £150 (before tax).

My 18 year old son landed a union welding job.  Started this week making over $50k.

There are manufacturing jobs all over here in a 20 mile radius starting between $16 and $25 looking for warm bodies.   Requirements being 18 years old and high school diploma.  Sometimes driving I see more 'work here starting at $xx with $2-5k signing bonus' signs than political ones.

Certain industries are certainly suffering right now.

1.  Real estate:  this is a boom and bust industry.  We just went through a major boom in home sales and refis.  The Fed is raising rates and this is throwing water on the industry.  Everyone in this industry should expect to make less money this year.

2.  Investment advising/brokering:  Coinbase, Robinhood, and assorted Wall Street firms are announcing layoffs.  Without everyone getting their stimmy, retail trading especially has taken a hit.  Ironically, the P/E of the S&P is the lowest it's been in a decade.  This is a great time to invest.

3.  High-growth speculative business models:  there are a lot of fintech and Uber/Lime type businesses that don't really make money, but are hoping to one day.  These businesses are finding it harder to get capital injections.  They have to lay people off.

As always, if your concern is employment, get a job in health care or utilities.  There will always be sick people and a need for electricity.

Russia, the continued manufacturing issues in China due to Covid, Abbott's grandstanding on the Texas border, and the logistical delays in California ports (which are finally easing).
