Several years ago I said that if I ever got sick enough to need to lay low for a week I'd watch the newer Battlestar Galactica. I got my "wish" but couldn't get through it all, too annoying and too sick.

Next time I get slammed with something I am going to try and get caught up on the whole Trek universe before Disney buys them out and does a Star Wars crossover.

Lower Decks is bad, at least as far as I could tell from two episodes.  I don't particularly like dumb in my Star Trek.  Surprised they don't have any Pakleds on that ship.

Sorry, no matter how promising a Galaxy Quest/Orville crossover sounds, without Alan Rickman there is no point.

It's kind of funny, I guess, It's mostly, "Hey remember this thing from that other Star Trek show"? kind of humor.

I found that LD actually had alot to say about the philosophy of Trek Utopianism by discussing what actually makes individuals feel a need to contribute towards it in very fallible, human ways.

Yes, except with LD its TNG references, whereas with SNW its TOS references.

Totally not the same.

I agree that a lot of the humor is that, but that's more... the baseline of the humor.

Much of where lower decks really shines for its glorious insanity has little to do with references to other Trek shows.

Yeah. I mean, I don't mind a humorous series/take, but I've noticed that it suffers from pretty much the same problem that all 'adult' animation has post-Rick & Morty (and Venture Brothers, Family Guy, etc.) . They try to fit the humor style of Rick & Morty (or the others) into a different framework, then go 'extra' to compensate. And for me, it just ends up being 'meh'. Sort of like Miracle Whip trying to outdo Hellman's/Best Foods; some people like it, others get turned off by the 'extra'.

2022-07-23 9:08:10 PM
So. It's going to be live action, likely with the lower decks voices playing themselves (just not a stretch at all - A lot of them look like their characters).

So Jerry O'Connell and Rebecca Romjin will be onscreen together. As two people who have no idea who the other is, and probably dislikes the other.

Should be fun.

The first one crashed into a planet.  The second one crashed into a planet.  The third one lost pressure, broke in half and then crashed into a planet.  The fourth one disappeared without a trace.  5 got doubled booked by its agent, 6 & 7 are only available on some weird Albanian streaming service and 8 got cancelled early in pre-production when the exec who greenlit it got fired.

Deep Space One, Two, and Three were sabotaged and destroyed. Deep Space Four vanished within 24 hours of coming online. Deep Space Five did some great things and brought an awful lot of people together, but was eventually scuttled for a more permanent ground-based facility.

Deep Space Six was actually a movie instead of a series. But I never understood why the Federation put one of their Deep Space stations underwater on Earth...

/how's that for crossovers?

Over the last couple of weeks I've seen more than a few mentions, screencaps, and video clips of Hardware Wars here on Fark. Enough that I remember it and and mention it in response to your post. Thing is, I was wondering if I was noticing more because a friend had brought HW up in conversation a few weeks ago.

We didn't see it until early 80s when it was on Beta and my uncle rented it.  It also had "Bambi Meets Godzilla" on the same tape.

believe the article said the Lower Decks characters would be voice only. There's a huge time jump between the series. So maybe they get a radio distress call from the future somehow?
