In the 70s, my mother used to drink this and Fresca.  The Pepsi Light wasn't bad but Fresca tasted awful back then until they retooled the formula.

The reason light beer was invented because the breweries realized they were only utilizing half of their market because they wanted to sell beer to more women, but they didn't think "diet beer" would go over too well.

I do have memories of that glass with the shrinking waistline. Didn't some of the ads have a can that did that?

But now, there are all of these "Zero" sodas. I think the term "Diet" became unmasculine more recently prompting another marketing shift, but that's just my guess.

I remember that... as a kid, I thought it was tasty, but even then I could tell there was something besides sugar in there.

TFA is dumb.  IIRC, Tab was marketed pretty much exclusively to women, with the notion that it'd make you skinny.

Water, milk or beer... in that order.
Fark your sodas, or enjoy your death.

Took a swig on a Tab about 40 years ago and can still taste that bitter brew. Call me fella

Tab is just plain nasty.*

*This opinion is based on how it tasted in the early 1970s. Haven't tried it since.

I remember Tab. Pink can. Broads liked it because they though it helped 'em keep their figure. You see a woman order a Tab at a restaurant and you knew she was all-in on that "Ms." nonsense. Give me a proper lady who drinks seltzer with a lime like God intended.

Does it even still exist?  Can't say I've seen on the store shelves in 40 years.

They discontinued TaB in 2020.

Used to drink lots of regular soda until I was about 15/16 and finally looked at how much sugar was in it and was just like, "That can't be good." I wasn't even fat, I played a lot of sports so I was at a pretty normal weight. I just forced myself to get used to the taste of diet soda.

Sooooo glad I did.

Tab also had an energy drink that was branded as "Tab Fabulous" in some countries but not the US.

and we know whom that was marketed to.

Yeah, as TFA pointed out, it had been made and marketed solely to women at the beginning. Mystery farking solved. It's not even a "toxic masculinity" thing this time, it was a woman's product, according to Coke themselves. Coke has nobody to blame but themselves here, story over.

TFA even mentions that, which makes TFA even that much more ridiculous.

It was originally invented for diabetics, but it flopped because consumers thought it was "medicinal"

Once the pattent for the process expired, miller purchased it.. rebranded and marketed to the health crowd.
Male and female.

Yeah, it's not like it got the Zima treatment. They certainly knew who they were marketing Tab to.   I think it was Letterman who used to ridicule Zima drinkers.

Each and every drink made with aspartame sucks ass, with lingering disgusting aftertaste.

I don't mind the sucralose/splenda sweetener that is used by the diet ice drinks though. Anyone know of any no/low calorie sodas that use sucralose instead of aspartame?
