I'm not hopeful, considering what an unmitigated disaster this season has been so far for United, because the owners are trying to sell, and because his wife apparently hated D.C. when Rooney was here as a player.

Having said that, and despite being a Citeh fan, he had an incredible impact on United that first season, and by the end of his shortened tenure, most of D.C. was sorry to see him go.

I don't follow MLS closely, but am ostensibly a DC United fan. The team has done the square root of fark all this season. At least Rooney moves the needle a little bit. Plus he was a surprisingly good manager at Derby considering everything they were going through.

Also, his season as a player at DC was the only time I ever liked him on the pitch.
