I'll just keep saying it... I hate her and almost everything she stands for... but with a 2-party system, we have to hope she and her flock can retake their party because we don't have any other options right now.

Evil and needlessly cruel but can be reasoned with seems like the very least one could ask for in an elected official.

Her ideas are awful, and the policies she supports are awful.  But at least I can say she isn't a straight up traitor to this country and the very idea of government of the people, by the people, and for the people, which is something I can't say about most Republicans.

You can reason and bargain with lawful evil. They may alter the bargain if they can justify a higher purpose to doing so, but at least they won't just set everything on fire just because they want to watch the pretty flames burn it all down.

Well, there's your problem.

She, and her family, along with a couple generations of Republicans, created the conditions in the Republican Party that led to Trump.

Never forget that about Republicans like her because: The enemy of my enemy is still my enemy.

Anyone who still identifies as a Republican is a bad person.

They see the actions and words and results and say, "Yes. This represents me."

Or they're too stupid to see those things.

Fun fact: the Founders' generation often referred to the "manly" spirit needed to form America. They included things like "caregiving" and "responsibility to others" and "trusting other people with their freedom" and "self-confidence".

Also some awful shiat like patriarchy and a condescending paternalism (at best) toward non-white people.

// so "not all stereotypes"?
// whatever - point is, what modern Republicans call "manly" was not always the sum-total of what was considered such
// wait, Republicans are wrong about verifiable facts of American history? SOMEONE ALERT THE INTERNET I GOT A BIG SCOOP HERE

This is a situational assessment. I'm trapped in a country with her. She won't stab me while I'm asleep but will battle me when awake. She's my adversary but she has that much of a code. And it's enough that she will fight for that code.

I absolutely agree; however, just because I would curb stomp someone in a heartbeat does not mean that I can't respect them "talking the talk and walking the walk."

trump filth have no code, honor or even an arguable position. They are subhuman vermin and the curb stomping would include a lot of giggling and wiping the goo off my shoe with their lifeless carcass.

You're describing every Republican since Reagan... TFG just had the benefit of a couple decades of AM Radio / Faux Newz, and took better advantage of it than most.

Ideological and political/policy differences can be dealt with. Insanity and fanaticism cannot.

The GQP has just about gerrymandered themselves a house majority.  They are also the favorites to take back the Senate.

The American people appear poised to hand power to literal fascists because gas prices are high.  Call me a pessimist on this, you're probably right.

I'm gonna vote against the GQP at all levels this year, and at every subsequent opportunity.  But I live in a blue state.

Liz Cheney is down ~30 percentage points in her primary, Adam Kinzinger isn't even bothering to run for re-election.  Mitt "47%" Romney is out here screaming "both sides are bad".  GQP primaries seem to be between quiet fascists and loud fascists.  There is also very little hope that the GQP will splinter, because when it comes down to it, their voters always chose power over ideology.

Our shiatty political media is also doing its best to frame this election as a normal midterm, practically ignoring its vital importance to the continued existence of our democratic system.  We are literally in the midst of a judicial coup, but the disengaged only hear about inflation and gas prices.

Could the millions of Americans that usually sit out elections suddenly wake up to the danger and swarm to the polls in 2022, handing the GQP some crushing defeats?  Maybe.  But as a student of history, I don't see many signs that an awakening is actually happening.

Hope springs eternal, but people need to start thinking about what happens if the GQP takes over and enacts their plans to erode democracy to the point they cannot be dislodged via democratic means.

Here's an idea: if you'd like a "true progressive" to win a Democratic nomination for elected office, quit running crappy candidates. Starting point #1: find someone who's palatable to Black female churchgoers in Alabama. Do focus groups and stuff.

Know the audience. And if you don't think Black churchgoing women in Alabama should be part of the process... speak up.

Hey, totes coincidence!

Alabama is Wakanda with more humidity and not at all a state-sized hospice community for people who used to drop a minimum three racial slurs when explaining why they're unemployed!
