That is weird.  It must be made with lightly flavored gypsum.

Maybe it's a non-nutritive ice cream varnish.

That doesn't sound appealing. I wonder how much a Chinese gypsum mopper makes in an hour.

Cheddar is not a good melting cheese, it tends to separate instead. If you want to use cheddar in mac and cheese you have to either add it in a roux, or use a melting salt like sodium citrate.

No no this stuff didn't even melt when I put it in a hot frying pan. I forgot the brand, but it was like $3 for 2lbs.

Huh. Never heard of mellorine.

Though I must presume that the Chinese non-melting "ice cream" is, in fact, melamine.

"Is it safe for the human body to use a product that artificially prevents ice cream from melting for a long time?"

Do you actually think that Chinese manufacturers care?

"It claimed to use a 'viscosity-enhancing agent' to prevent the ice cream from melting easily, but assuring everyone that its product still met the national food safety standards."

Melamine?

You nailed it. The U.S. has a lot of Salmonella recalls, but where do the rest of the food recalls come from? Pet food, baby food, canned goods, mislabeled/misleading packaging, high chemical residues, etc.
