Based on geography. You spelled it wrong. It's $$$$$.

Yeah, USC and Rutgers in the same conference makes no sense. It's not like those are in big media markets.

/And Boston isn't a big college town

College football is a modern day plantation system.

Yes, but then they couldn't charge $100 to watch each game so they can buy the team another jet and why do you hate America?

The article is the problem.   There are plenty of college conferences based on geography.   The article focuses on D1 power conferences only.   That is the problem.

College football has already told you that they don't care about geography.  When the Big Ten went east to Maryland and Rutgers instead of west to Missouri and Iowa State, they made that clear.

And Notre Dame doesn't care about it either.  They know the money is outside of regionalism.

Please do see to your own wellbeing as it is with a fair measure of certainty I say that humanity would be unlikely to go on were we to lose such an intellectual titan.

Yesterday's wacky realignment article was more fun

His alignment looks good.  Only thing that should change is moving the Kansas and Nebraska schools to central and moving Iowa and Minnesota schools to the Northeast.

You can't move Kansas and Nebraska if you want to have the same amount of teams in each conference.

The one that doesn't make sense is TN and Vandy in the central.  Move them to the southeast, move Maryland and VA to the Northeast, and move Illinois and Nortwestern to the Central.

I can agree with that.  MU, KU, and K State belong in the same conference.

Of course, that doesn't give them the nice, even numbers he was going for, but then that one weird extension into Kansas and Nebraska didn't make much sense.

I get that people are not happy with the B1G adding left-coast teams, but the people complaining the loudest are people on the left coast that suddenly realized their conference has been a joke almost more than the ACC. They had to have seen this coming.

And the Northeast Conference would become the new ACC.

Tennessee in the same conference as Minnesota but not Alabama.  This is what happens when geography majors who don't care about sports write articles.

why do we need conferences?   can schedule a series of games and then start a playoff system.  7 games with nearby and historical rivalries... then 5 game playoffs from the top 32.  the top two teams will play 13 not 12 games.

Iowa and Minnesota are not part of the South and should not be included with them.

Seriously, it's no fun now that I as a Mizzou fan can't hate as much on Kansas.

I've never understood why Missery fans spend more energy rooting against Kansas than rooting for their own team.  TigerBoard even has (had) their own "Kansas" section.

I got there years ago when we both had decent basketball teams.  We had beaten them twice that season and had a better record and yet they were still ranked higher in the polls.

We face planted early in the tourney, but that's just a Mizzou thing.

Now it's more to be amused at their football crowds.

That plan does just as much to fark up traditional rivalries as the current trend of mass consolidation towards a Big 2 model does. Conferences don't exist solely for regional alignment though that would be a preference overall. Culture, history and yes, even academics matter across the wide swath of FBS. How much of each varies depending on the conference but all play a roll.

Yay more meaningless masturbation articles. Yes, everyone has their "solution" for FBS football that literally no one else cares about, especially not the people making decisions, and none of the ideas are intriguing in any way whatsoever. We definitely need to keep having this conversation!
