Before the pandemic, I just used my airline status to get shorter lines. That was a nice perk of frequent business travel.

No idea if I'll have that again anytime soon. *sniff*

I don't know that I'd pay for Clear. That seems like a scam. I've heard they also provide accelerated security at various events, so maybe it's worth it if you're a season ticket holder or something along those lines.

But TSA Precheck is good enough, and Global Entry is great if you're traveling internationally.

It is nice to avoid standing in line with people who are not accustomed to traveling. So, yes. There are definitely two different experiences at the TSA gates, and it's worth it to avoid the normal line and sail through the precheck line.

But never forget that this is all still for the masses. If you have a private jet, you aren't standing in line.

We could go back to the pre-9/11 security model of x-ray machines and metal detectors, but I'd still want separate lines for frequent travelers and occasional travelers.

Local AAA had a TSA Pre event a few years back, figured it would be worth it.

It kinda was, I don't fly much.

Do we need to go drive training around design thinking, agile development, or lean model development into that specific area? We then let that natural diffusion of innovators, that 2% in that group, really take hold and say, "We are going to solve our own problems."

...

Is this a government agency, or a bunch of software dev middle-managers?

Everyone wants to be a software developer and tech company these days. I farking hate it.

Marketing is not the same thing as software engineering. Our departments are not "agile." Our ad campaigns are not "iterations." We do not "ship" advertisements. There is no such thing as a "full-stack marketer."

MAKE IT FARKING STOP.

I'm signed up for both of them because I am a very impatient man who does not like to stand in line

Really? That's weird because the rest of us love it. You must be special.

I read TFA until it said "Read the rest of this bullshiat" so I don't really know what these things even are but what's to stop a terrorist from getting them?

(not that I even think something like 9/11 will ever happen again because why would they bother?)

What is the benefit over TSA Pre? That you wait behind one person instead of three in the TSA Pre checkpoint? Is it the valet that helps you walk from entry point next to the TSA Pre entry to the machines?

Gilbert Gottfried's "Aristocrats" joke did more to improve America after 9/11 than anything that was part of the Patriot Act.

Totally depends on how much you fly and out of what airport. At my home airport, even the TSAPre line is sometimes 1/2 hour or longer at busy times. If you fly often enough cutting that down to 2min or less is worth it. At most other airports it won't be.

Also you can do Clear without having Precheck, so if for some reason you don't qualify for Precheck it's your only expedited option.

I will never fly again.  It pisses me off that I have to prove my citizenship to take public transportation within the USA.  It's way too much of a fascist "papers please" vibe for me.  I have the boring ID state driver's license, not the "Real" ID version.

Absolutely I do via NEXUS.  The ability to skip past the land border lines with the family, skip airline lanes, blow through customs in a heartbeat, no question.

The wouldn't bother with the same style of attack. No one will. Could you imagine the passengers' collective reaction if some guys pulled out boxcutters and tried to gain access to the cockpit ever again?  Some passengers will get sliced up, and the authorities will have to count torn-off extremities to figure out exactly how many terrorists had been on board.

I'm sure another plane will get blown up someday, someone may find a way to get a gun on a plane and shoot some people or blow a hole in the fuselage. But the days of hijackings are over - and that's not the TSA's doing. No one's ever again going to think "shiat; guess we're diverting to Cuba for a few hours."  Al qaeda blew the load on 9/11 in regard to hijackings.

If you travel to Asia on a somewhat regular basis, the APEC Business Card is also worth it. In most places you get to use the diplomat lanes (not coming back to the US, but that's what GE is for).

And I'll still renew it, but the relative benefits of PreCheck seem to be diminishing. In many airports the lines are getting almost as long, the operating hours and/or checkpoints that have it are being reduced, etc.

/Looking at you, SEA. And there have been several times it would have been faster to go through the regular line at immigration than wait to use one of the three GE kiosks that are actually working at any given time.
//Although I guess it doesn't really matter, you still all still end up in the same place waiting 40 minutes for your bags and then the same non-PreCheck security check for your connection.

Uh, the government already does the surveillance and knows everything they ask on the form.  The application process is just a game they play to keep it more exclusive for rich white people and to employ bureaucrats.

Same here. I've been background checked to hell and gone, one more didn't matter a whit.

Now that I don't travel as much for work, not sure I'll renew it when it comes due.

TSA Precheck is worth it (at Logan it is), on the other hand I have no idea how difficult it will be to renew this stuff next year.  Global Entry is nice if you travel internationally a lot, I didn't use it much.

The only issue being we had to wait months to get an appointment to go to Logan and get fingerprinted...  at Logan.  Plus a lot of paperwork.  But yeah, not traveling nearly as much since I quit my job :)
