Looks fun, but looks like it might be more meta than J&SB Strike Back/Reboot.

Mixed bag.

No one wants to see a bunch of guys in their fifties act like they're 22.

BUT BUFFY IS IN IT.

Wait, so is Ben Affleck.

Ehh, I dunno about this one. I loved Clerks, and Clerks II was really funny. But this trailer is just coming across as meh. I thought Clerks II tied up the story line really well. No need to go any further with it.

I still think the end of Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back was the best ending point.

God literally closed the book.

How do you do that when there are no more malls?

I think it still is. I'm sure the death of mall culture will be part of the story.

Doesn't seem like a horrible movie, but how in the world does it look so much cheaper than the one he shot on black and white 16mm 25 years ago?

Jfc did I actually just wait 16 years for this re recycling copycating of old material?  With a toss in of the heart attack .  But at least it's better than Metallica's most recent show. (Where the drums sounded like trash.)[that was actually a advertisement for a steaming service]But that isn't a farking compliment.

Because that effort was "a labor of love/my one shot to make it."
While the new one is a product made to earn a profit.

You can't buy the kind of effort it take to make anything that tight. that kind of work only comes from the situation of labor of love, or this is the one chance i have to be something more.

Only when those are the situations will someone not consider a risk/reward effort/return ratio the way a planed for profit production of product does.

Comic book illustrators are an excellent example of this.
They will show up strong with a really detailed art style, that eventually evolves into a style that still has their look in it, but takes about 1/5 or less the time to draw.

You can either be making art, in whihc case costs and effort to bring your inner vision to reality are irrelevant factors.
or you are trying to produce profitable product, in which case the cost/return risk/reward considerations are where our attention is driven

Digital has been the standard for almost 2 decades now.  That's not the reason.

You have a lifetime to make your debut album. You've got one year to make the sophomore album.

Those were my exact first thoughts.

Still, I was skeptical by the announcement but I'm all in after seeing the trailer.  I just had my 47th birthday and nostalgia is hitting me like a mf-er, thanks to the likes of Luke Skywalker, Boba Fett, Obi-Wan, Professor X, the Poison stadium tour, Top Gun, Neo, Bill & Ted, and now Jay & Silent Bob.

Yeah, but that isn't Smith's problem.

After "Clerks", he seemed to be building up to something really great. "Mallrats", "Chasing Amy", and "Dogma" were all very interesting. They didn't *quite* work, but you could see the progress.

But it turned out that was all Smith had in his tank. He never fulfilled the promise of those earlier movies. He just pukes out re-hsashes, now. I guess I would, too, if I was getting paid. But it's too bad.

No, I think they're correct but it's not JUST that it's digital.  Digital can be far more forgiving than film when it comes to not really understanding lighting.  They had to light moderately well in the first film or they wouldn't even have an image.  Digital isn't as demanding, but you still have to put in the basic work to make the image look good.  Otherwise you just end up with a film that could have been shot on a cell phone.

I don't think Smith ever really learned lenses or fundamentals of lighting, and the technology makes it easier to get away with ignorance.

No idea if it's true. But if so, I can understand. I once had a boss who knew little about marketing. He even got basic terminology wrong. And every time he would tell me to do something, I was an inch away from yelling, "You have no idea what the fark you're talking about!"

He does really well as a speaker/podcaster, though.  I've enjoyed that part of his career ever since the first Evening With Kevin Smith film.  He just has a great enthusiasm for the stuff he's into.

Time to take the 3 mile drive to the Quick Stop for some lottery tickets! When I still smoked I would always stop in for cigs on the way home from work. Just picked up my tickets, anyone else going to Red Bank for the Convenience Tour?

CSB - When they were filming in the area last year, Kevin came into my store and I sold him a new Apple mouse. Seemed like a nice guy and I like to think the mouse I sold him, was used in the editing of the film ;)

A few too many lampshades and winks to the audience, but it IS just a trailer.

My only real concern is that the "whacky pack of kooks making a movie on a shoestring" was basically the plot of Zac and Miri Make a Porno.

But if Kevin can keep the movie grounded and relatable (what made the original so great), it should be ok.

I used to like Kevin Smith movies.

I tried to watch Mallrats last year and it was absolutely awful.

Dogma still held up, though.  Best movie he's ever done.

I think Smith leaves the technical details to the crew.  He's very much a dialog-first filmmaker.  Although his cinematographer from Clerks (and Cop Out) has lately been busy shooting Mandalorian and Boba Fett.

Definitely agree. And the first half of Chasing Amy (before it gets cringey) is great too.

I keep forgetting that movie even existed.  It just didn't land for me at all.  It just felt like a generic studio comedy.

Because Kevin Smith is an auteur and cheap production value is his milieu.

I liked most of his stuff that I've seen, although I haven't seen anything past Clerks II other than JSB Reboot.

Reboot was a bit too self-referential IMO, and this looks like more of the same.

With that said, I hate myself for saying I'll likely watch it.
