I should finish RDR2.

Wow, instead of just doing it right (and modders showed how easy that could be), they decided to pitch a fit, take their ball, and go home.

Assholes.

So not only are we seeing every movie and TV show that existed just getting remade, now they're doing it to video games?

It is my favorite gaming experience of all time, and keep in mind I'm old.

Well, maybe second only to Portal two

Theyve been doing it with videogames at least as long.

Often there's more of a reason to do it for videogames, if even just to make them playable on modern hardware and operating systems.

Rockstar however appeared intent on doing it...poorly.

The remaster of classic Command & Conquer is a masterful example of how to do it right.

I barely remember anything from Red Dead Redemption.  I do, however, remember playing multiplayer and being trapped in a cabin with a friend and like 50 pumas waiting outside to kill us.

That game had some weird spawning issues.

Too bad about the RDR remaster. I've heard that RDR has a lot of jank that the RDR2 engine corrected, so getting a rerelease on the RDR2 engine would have made it much better.

Dear Game Developers: I have zero interest in a crummy poker simulator, or slot machine in a game. I don't want inept slow rhythm games that basically just make me waste time I could be spending exploring or doing things. I don't know why Japanese games have so many fishing mini games but I hate them. Please do not interrupt by game experience by making me play crummy games that would come in a 30-1 pack.

GTA5 was better(GTA4 was better than its predecessors), but the Ballad of Gay Tony and the Lost and the Damned were both great, and Rockstar have cemented themselves as assholes by focusing all of their post release efforts on multiplayer for GTA5 and RDR2 and releasing zero single player expansions

With some video games, it's the only way to preserve them, because otherwise they're now unplayable (emulators and VMs can only do so much). Not that game companies are actually interested in art preservation, mind you.

I genuinely think they intentionally botched the 3D Universe remasters because they're somehow ashamed of the games now and want to be taken "seriously"

Yes that seemed annoying at the time, but after playing GTA V once or twice I saw that the forced 'hanging out' with these NPCs did make them feel more like actual characters, I developed a connection to them, more than to anyone in V outside our protagonists.

I hate the Epic exclusive bit on the reboot.

Looking forward to it, but going to wait a few weeks for word of mouth.

SR2 needs a remaster. The GoG version was broken when I played it two years ago as a freebie. Still, that is the game that put GTA IV to shame.

RDR2 is awesome in the multiplayer.

Good.  Stop remaking old shiat and focus on new games instead.  When the fark did GTA5 come out?  It's well past time that GTA6 should have been released.  Hell, we should probably be playing GTA8 by now, but they keep remastering 5 for every new console generation and idiots keep buying the damn thing.

GTA-II was the pinnacle of GTA.

No other game goes where that game was willing to go. You think fooking a hooker and beating her to take your monye back is bad? pfftt, how common place IRL pedestrian that is.

In GTA2 you steal a city bus, drive around to load it up with passengers, then take it to the hotdog factory where you send the passengers into the meat grinder, turning them into hotdogs.
Then you drive a hotdog food truck around town feeding the Russian mob's enforcers.

And ain't nothing sense even come close to that, but instead got all real world boring.

And then Vice City wound up being the most fun of the had to be more like IRL 3D GTA games.
It just had a certain kind of laid back fun instead of the trying too hard "zany" fun.

Unfortunately they discovered that they can just keep creating content for Online and make money hand over fist.

I've never been more mad at mainstream game critics then I was when I finished that game.

10/10?  TEN. OUT OF TEN????!

No planes, no tanks, no jetpacks. No go karts, bicycles, parachutes, dune buggies, lawn mowers, golf carts, etc. LAME. The weapons are LAME (all EIGHT of them). No Ammu-Nation?! fark you. No safehouses to buy. No businesses to buy. NOTHING to buy. No barber shops, no gym, no tattoo parlors. No car customization? Seriously?! All the clothes look like shiat. You will look like an unwashed goblin and LIKE it. Now go drive your stock gray 2007 Toyota Camry. The driving was terrible. The gunplay was mediocre.

The story was terrible. I couldn't care less about any of the characters, which is par for the course with GTA to be honest, but I also didn't find them amusing or memorable. I remember when they made me choose who would die between cousin Balky and some girl I was apparently supposed to care about, and I literally flipped a coin, because I couldn't have cared less. I can't think of a single mission that wasn't "drive here, now drive here, shoot a guy, done". When the last mission happened, it wasn't even an end to the main character's story. It was just like, the 5th random mission for eccentric Mission-Giver character #39, but for some reason the credits rolled afterwards.

I could go on, believe me. Perhaps the most disappointing game of all time.

I'm ashamed at you all for not buying the initial round of remasters.  Now we can't ever play the worst versions of Bully or Max Payne with raytracing.

2022-07-06 3:08:58 PM
The Rockstar remasters were a clusterfark because they sank a billion dollars in resources into doing something no one would ever under any circumstances give a single fark about (graphical updates), a moderate but insufficient amount of resources into something only new players of the game unlikely to be the target demographic for this (menu and other interface updates), and basically no resources whatsoever into literally the one farking thing that could make such a re-release useful to anyone (updating the back-end to run smoothly on newer OSes / hardware without bugs or instability).

They didn't fark things up quite as badly as Activision with the Warcraft 3 remake, but that was mostly because it wasn't actually possible to delete or brick an already-functional version of the old game everyone had.  Albeit, on the other hand it was... more unnecessary for that exact reason-- the original, "unremastered" versions run fine with little more than the 'right click and select run as windows 7' level of emulation at worst.  Since, again, the only real major demographic they were shooting for is people who already played the old games and wanted to do it again, the "why?" factor was strong with this one.

I bought the Definitive Edition with GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas (mostly because my SA disc had a scratch) for PS4 and enjoyed them even though they removed a lot of music... but after they patched it there were few issues and people just like to complain for the hell of it.

I did buy them and replayed all three. The rain visibility was super annoying but got fixed pretty quick.

At least it had that going over the originals, it's not like the trilogy on the PS2 didn't have glitches, they just didn't have console updates. Well except for San Andreas which recalled and rereleased with the Hot Coffee code deleted so that it couldn't be accessed by anyone with a game genie.

Hell, I need to start it. I spent many, many hungover Sunday's playing the first and was beyond the moon to learn of a sequel.

Got it release day, played for a few hours...and haven't played since. *shrug*

I have to agree, in so far that as a city, I liked Liberty more than Los Santos, and GTAIV still has a lot of love for me because I could actually feel like I was back home in NYC, so it felt very cozy.

The areas around Los Santos felt much more alive and interesting, though.

As a game, GTAV is superior in every way, except that Los Santos would be a terrible place to live which kills my immersion a lot.

the Bank Heist Mission mid-game was a lot of fun. More so than the GTAV ones, where they got over by throwing a lot of new mechanics in (like the mid-game one where they introduce invincibility suits and mini guns). A lot of hat-on-a-hat stuff. I honestly remember the missions from Lost and the Damned better though. The characters in that expansion were fantastic and that they tied the Niko, Lost and Tony missions all together so tightly is a great feat. And I really liked both endings - both felt very tragic despite "winning", though I think it's safe to say that Roman dying is the "canon" ending - it just ends better. I think we could have had just that one and it would have been fine.

I've beaten it 100%. Gotten every achievement, found every Easter egg, located every insect, bird, plant...

Then I would just wander around hoping to find a kidnapping or a mugging. Some days I would just play poker or dominoes for hours because I had nothing else to do.

I really miss it and I'm surprised by how much I loved it
