Not exactly breaking news here.  They want to do ANYTHING but help the voters.

Generations of Americans worked incredibly hard to build a great economy, and it's now just being siphoned off to those who are already wealthy for no better reason than greed. Tax cuts for the rich thanks to politicians elected by the not-particularly-rich sucked in by trinkets like guns and the "freedom" to openly hate religious, sexual and ethnic minorities. Meanwhile it's go-fund-me's for those needing significant medical intervention to treat injuries caused by a mentally ill mass shooter.

You don't think giving money to voters helps them?

Interesting.

Yes? I'm told all the time that despite well less than half of Americans paying federal income tax that "they pay other taxes" like state tax. And, given that state governments are far less generous with refundable credits, I would imagine higher proportion of state payers benefit than federal for the same size cut.

This link is right in TFA. And it says you're very gullible if you "imagine" any of this nonsense.

But those tax cuts will lead to massive economic growth and the wealth will trickle down to the working class!

Sure, it hasn't worked that way the last 4,172 times the GOP tried it, but they have a REALLY good feeling about 4,173!!

I think cutting my taxes by $100 just to raise my property taxes or lower my home value is, at best, neutral. It's almost certainly worse. The state is either going to get its money or its not and it'll cut services.

Just give the money back if you aren't using it for the reason it was voted for you stupid f*cks.

Cut twice as much from them as what they're asking for. Literally just stop paying the moochers for things. They can sue, and you might lose, but it'll take years to work through the court system.

Cut taxes when you have a surplus thanks to federal money.

Cut services a few years down the road when surplus and federal money end.

It's the republican way.

Add Georgia to the list, though Kemp is trying to buy votes and say it's "Due to years of responsible, conservative budgeting," rather than a massive outlay of federal cash.

It's not Fark's fault that the articles are shiat.

The article claims that state income tax systems are progressive and have higher earners pay more. You click through that link to a study where they say the exact opposite: "The absence of a graduated personal income tax in many states and an overreliance on consumption taxes contribute to this longstanding problem [of inequitable taxation on lower earners.]"

So now it's completely muddled. Tax cuts in some states would disproportionately benefit high earners, while tax cuts in others would benefit everyone. Without state by state detail sweeping conclusions are hard to make.

NewportBarGuy: Just give the money back if you aren't using it for the reason it was voted for you stupid f*cks.

I believe many states have constitutional amendments and/or laws that require budget surpluses to be doled out to the people via tax rebates the following year. Does the fact that they voted for such a system not matter?

The democrats wanted to throw money at the states with the last COVID package instead of giving money to the people (how's that $2000, anyhow?) Now that money actually makes it to the people and you are complaining.

Most of the red states run budget deficits so they depend on more fiscally responsible blue states to bail them out. Those same red states also rank low in education, personal incomes, medical care, and just about every other metric of human well being.

These same red states that constantly need a budget bailout coincidentally fine with sucking off the hard work of responsible democrats that pay their bills.

farking grifters from the richest to the most inbred cletus. Then they blame Joe Biden for their shiatty lot in life.

"Here's some money, but you can't use it for that."
"fark you, I want to use it for that."
"Then you can't have the money."
"No way, I can do whatever I want with it, it's my money."
"Then you don't get any money, it's that simple."
"Nuh uh, you gotta give it to me now!  You promised!"
"No problem, you just can't use it for that."
"fark you, I want to use it for that."
-repeat-

If Reagan can make highway funds conditional on raising the drinking age, then Biden can make COVID funds conditional on using them for COVID.  You know, the thing the legislature allocated the funds for?

"Punish these states for their ridiculous governance."
"But that will just make them hate us more."
"Sure, but they can't exactly vote against us any harder, now can they?"
"But it might have ripple effects around the nation."
"Sure.  And eventually they'll all starve to death, leaving room for civilized parts of this country to expand.  If they don't wanna starve, they can just pull themselves up by the bootstraps and start up a several billion dollar cottage industry to keep the state afloat."

I live in a blue State, and so far most of the covid money has been spent the same as any other reelection slush fund would be spent.

Well take a peek at Iowa's new tax law. It's set to slowly cut down the top tax tiers until it ends with a flat tax in 2026 and is budgeted precisely to eat the state's COVID surplus by the time it fully goes into effect. The easy assumption after 2026 is that the budget shortfall will be replaced with an increased sales tax; the (R) governor has been very clear that that's what she wants.

I want Dems to hit this hard.
Cut off all funding for states that take more than give.

They won't. We have full blown American Nazis as one party and the spineless, worthless enablers party on the other.

Go ahead and make all the tax breaks you want. We get it, Cletus decided to go plague rat and the state didn't spend their covid relief money that the responsible people of America gave it, so they should return that to the taxpayers of America.

And your cletus state can make it's tax cuts out of it's own budgets, not the hard work of some neighboring state that is capable of balancing it's own budget.
