ahahhhahahaha you are hilarious

There's signs we've hit Peak Oil.

Also the refiners are the ones making the money this round, because crude supplies are tight but the price per barrel vs. cost of gasoline is way out of whack vs. 2008 when $140/barrel translated into just over $4/gallon.  So someone's on the take here.

Also you're forgetting that Russia is effectively "offline" for purposes of supply due to sanctions due to Vladdy P's insanity.  So a glut isn't gonna happen and the market is carefully tracking things to keep that from happening because they want maximum profits (to make up for every penny they lost due to lockdowns and the price of crude actually going negative.)

Meh. American consumers are still heavily subsidized, and pay less for gasoline than it actually costs.
But not much longer.

It seems like yesterday when oil was momentarily valued at $-37 a barrel due to insufficient storage or transportation.   Rare storage rent inflated so it cost the owner $37 to just own it.  They had to change the rules for valuing a barrel.  Hollywood accountants had to go back to school to learn a new kind of magic.

Allow editing until somebody else comments in the thread or until somebody likes or funnies your comment.  That gives you a little bit of time, depending on the popularity of a thread.

Another option is to allow editing, but only additions and strike-thoughts.  That way when you're your brain farts, you can go back and fix things.

June/July/August are the ONLY times the US Govt bothers to monitor inflation for the sake of determining what the Social Security cost of living adjustment (COLA) will be in the following year.

They don't give a rat's ass about Jan-June or Sept-Dec. It's only during those certain three months that inflation always ever so conveniently dies down.

Now watch. Right after around the Labor Day weekend, it's going to be right back to inflation skyrocketing again. But by then the Grandmas are gonna get screwed next year because J/J/A inflation rates were falling, resulting in an inadequate COLA percentage.

It happens every. Farking. Year.

The previous time gas hit a record high was during the Great Recession, when the national average reached $4.11 a gallon in July 2008. But by the end of that year, it had fallen 60%, to $1.62 a gallon, as demand plunged

.
That's the beauty of high gas prices.

It forces the poor onto public transportation, fuel supplies increase against diminished demand, and prices drop.

The problem reemerges once prices drop back to the point where the poor can once again participate, repeating the cycle.

Frankly I don't give a fudge that much about gas and food prices as much as I do about affordable housing. For renters and qualified buyers. It doesn't matter now, the ripple effects of the increased prices on manufacturing and logistics has pushed the country past a breaking point and anyone that owns a business is vacuuming up extra cash out of consumers pockets.

The price of everything (except gas) will continue to rise unless gas goes back to like 1.50$/gal for a few years.

The damage has already been done to make more damage.

That is a terrible idea.  You know how much antibiotic resistant gonorrhea your average executive has?  It's like a lot.  I mean you have to assume Epstein was giving them the same pool of high end hookers that he was giving Donald Trump, and his inner circle, and judging by how much the untreated diseases fried those guys brains?

Would be true if it were true. This may be just a crazy idea, but  the world's second largest petro exporter is currently largely offline to the West. BTW, Russian exports are falling. This is not the same as saying Russian oil revenue is falling. Also not the same as saying Russian oil profits are falling.
.
Could be wrong, but isn't manufacturing a bigger driver when it comes to setting oil prices? Drivers will suck it up at the pump and drive less if they have to. Industry will slow/shut down.

/everyone knows the US President controls the price of oil with a lever under his desk

Quoting from a post isn't a problem since it imbeds the original text in the reply and that's not being edited.

Gas prices ALWAYS go down before any "travel" holiday, like the Fourth of July. This is because the oil cartels and petrol corporations want to encourage people to fill up their truck, car, RV, jet ski, ATV, and everything else to get more sales and more profit in the long run. People freak out when they get a slight break on gas prices and rush to fill up all their vehicles, chainsaws, lawnmowers, jerry cans, etc. and it adds up.

It'll go back up after the holiday some time. Probably.

Nothing to see here. This is gas station normal.
