I attempted to show off for my 6 year old by riding my bike down 3 stairs which I regularly did as a teenager.  It was about a foot before the first stair before I realized "this is a terrible idea" and then 0.5 seconds later I stiffened up and crashed.  Wasn't hurt luckily.

Even at 25 you'll hurt yourself doing vigorous exercise after sitting on your butt for a year.

at 41, I've got tendonitis gradually in one elbow, seemingly perpetual inflamation in one knee, & general back soreness any given day.  I lift weights 4-5 times a week, and do spin bike or jogging in addition 2-3 times a week.  Been doing these things for 20 years.

Its worth it to stay in shape and healthy, and keeps me from my more self-abusing tendencies, but man.  I do feel the years creeping on slowly but surely.

Nice to know even a guy who was a pro athlete can't exactly do the same shiat he did 15 years ago though!

Got the same deal with my knees, except it's both of them.  Loosens up as I walk but those first 30 or so steps out of bed are murder.

do you do the thing where you kind of swing your body up into a sitting position and kind of hold it there for 30 seconds before getting out of bed?

Oh, another age related thing; I about 2 years ago i managed to have some sort of major strain, maybe a tear in my right rotator cuff.  How did it happen? best guess was sleeping on my stomach with my right arm in a weird position. was fine one day, woke up in agony, and did 6 months with progressive exercise bands to get the thing back to square one.

My lizard-brain compulsion to seek coffee doesn't allow me such restraint.

Yeah... Especially something designed for pros.  You gotta be in tremendous shape to pass.  Even just 'fit for a normal person' ain't gonna cut it.  If he WANTED to train to pass, I'm sure he could easily manage.  But just randomly off the couch?  Not gonna happen, no matter what your age.

That result is probably the best lesson you could have taught a 6 year old

At 41 you are supposed to make up stories to cover for your self-induced injuries instead of freely admitting that you engaged in wanton dumb-assery.

Based on personal experience, no, stretching makes not one bit of difference to anything. Don't think I ever sat on my ass for a year, but 3 months has happened. At 25, meh. Today, pushing 60? 3 months off will be hard to recover from.
