With pressures mounting, Biden thinks GOP will make his midterm case for him

Welp we're boned

"Look at how bad Republicans are, vote for me!" has failed so many goddamn times it's simply unbelievable that they think it's a valid strategy. Ultimately, it's not an attempt to win elections, it's just a way to continue to stand for absolutely nothing.

The GOP had trigger laws already in place for the day they outlawed abortion. Why haven't the Dems done anything similar?

Yeah, one side was blacks wanting human rights, the other was racists, kiss my ass you BSAB motherfarker.

Oh, I think it's pretty clear - Democrats are going to use the same winning "look at THOSE yahoos, amirite?" playbook from 2000, 2004, 2010, 2014, 2016...

Any political premise that begins with the concept that voters pay attention to policy, recent political history or really anything is de facto DOA.

The word you're looking for is "unable", and it's entirely due to the presence of so many Republicans in Congress.

I do think Democrats will outperform House projections because those projections don't take into account how many races are against wacky assholes, but the projections are pretty grim in the first place.

And every idea we propose gets immediately shot down as unworkable.
Whole lotta people are willing to tell us what we can't do. Ain't nobody telling us what we can do tho.
And Biden has a ton of options he could be using against the GOP. He just doesn't seem to care.

Go away Joe, nobody wants you.  You were forced on us by the DNC. You're the reason our country is on the train to fascism.  Get out of the way and let a REAL leader take over.

At the very least they should have used it to get people to come out and vote in the midterms.

Voting on reproductive right saving legislation could have been the thing to "get out the vote".

But instead it's a wet fart from the Ds.

The Republicans better do a damn good job because Biden isn't going to be doing anything. If you think he's going to do anything beyond a sternly worded letter when it comes to Roe vs. Wade or the gas companies price gouging then I've got some very affordable bridges to sell you.

AdmirableSnackbar: "Look at how bad Republicans are, vote for me!" has failed so many goddamn times

To be fair, presenting actual policy hasn't worked so well, either, especially if it is something that takes a little intelligence to understand.

If it fits on a bumper sticker...maybe.

Because this worked so well for HiIlary's campaign. I get "don't interrupt your enemy while they're making a mistake" and all, but if that's your only strategy then you're also making a mistake.

Yep. Any realistic examination of the last forty years will tell you it should be sufficient, and that same look will tell you it does not in fact generate anything approaching victory conditions.

C'mon, Dems. You're not going to convince the Reps to join you, and the Dem base already knows they need to vote blue (and will). It's the lazy Dems and undecided/unmotivated you need to court, and they need more juice than "Well, will you just look at what the Republicans are doing?" It might be sufficient to convince them to not vote for Republicans, but not enough to show at the polls, and there are more "will always vote" Republicans than Democrats.

You know Democrats have power now, right? And you know they're determined to use their power to do absolutely nothing, right? Go vote, as if that'll change them wanting to do nothing at all.

Ah yes, the evil DNC that restricted voter turnout in the primaries to 30%.  I remember trying to vote for Warren when one of their enforcers curb stomped me before I get to the box.

Pelosi campaigning for a anti abortion candidate that was in a close primary race with a progressive should also tell you where the DNC stands. They'd rather keep abortion illegal than allow a progressive to get elected to the House. All they've got at this point is that they aren't Republicans, but at this point there's not that big of a gap between the two on the major issues where there should be.

I tried to vote for Warren in my state's primary but she dropped out the week before.

Clearly she's in on the conspiracy.

Like the Women's Health Protection Act (passed by the House, died in the Senate because there isn't a majority of 60 votes for it there)?

That kind of wet fart?

Counterpoint:  people are morons.

Our church runs a local food bank that I sometimes buy canned goods for.  In the past six months, the price of a grocery bag of canned veggies, pasta, beans, etc. has gone up at least 10%.

Ten percent inflation.  In six months.  And not for luxuries, for basic commodities even the poorest need.

I don't care how virtuous you think your policies are; if the economy tanks THAT badly under your watch, you deserve to be ridden out of town on a rail.  Which what I expect will happen to the Democrats in November.

What a jerk off this thread is turning into, quickly. Progressives with all the answers can only complain because they don't bother running anyone in the primaries or they've spent years biatching about centrists that they can't get any of them to vote for their candidate. But they can always claim they have all the answers (mostly because they never have any discernible positions other than complaining).

If the problem is fixed, they can't raise money off the wedge issue in the next election. They're still playing by the old gentlemen's rules while the GOP is in the corner playing with matches.

It's so funny watching the usual suspects coming up with all these excuses to not vote for the Democrats.

You know why Republicans win? Their voters look for reasons to vote for someone instead of reasons to not vote for them. Republican voters will take anything as long as it also outlaws a woman's right to choose. Democratic voters place protections of things like a woman's right to choose behind any number of other, entirely ephemeral considerations, such as "keeping their conscience clear".
