If they're assuming it's a home run, why stop at second and third?  Wouldn't they slow trot all the way home?

For the life of me I can't figure out what the runners were thinking. I thought maybe Buxton faked them out at first, but all he did was run it down and catch it like normal, and somehow they both--both already off the bag--decided to take off before the ball was in his glove, as if they thought he'd missed it. How two runners could have the exact same failure to remember simple and fundamental rules of gameplay at the exact same moment is stupefying.

Well, that's one way to make the fans forget you intentionally walked somebody on a 1-2 count, and gave up a three run homer to the next batter.

I am starting to think the players are doing everything they can to see to it Tony Larussa gets fired.  Every day there is another White Sox fail story.  It is a struggle being a Sox fan lately.  Terrible ownership, awful manager, rubbish stadium.

As for fielders, assume nothing, throw to the bases, see what the umps say afterwards.

A different article said that Buxton turned his head briefly to judge where the wall was, then he turned his head back as he caught the ball.  The speculation was that the head fake/looking at the wall confused the baserunners, who may have thought the ball was beyond Buxton's reach.
