That looks like a sure way to ruin a record.

don't the wheels damage the vinyl?

Do they sell for $250k apiece or something?

TFA says it can compete with a $500 turntable?  The closest I could find was from AudioTechnica, so, I very much doubt it can.

There are plenty of sub-$100 turntables that have built-in speakers and Bluetooth.

"Airing on Shark Tank helped the company with its steady rise in 2018 and the business was selling 100 to 200 units per day. With this, RokBlok made more than $959,000 in total revenue. Despite the jump in sales, the product isn't a big seller because it targets a small market."

Annual revenue?

"People buy and store old vinyl records for their love of vintage music. However, they don't get used as much nowadays because record players have become expensive."

Substandard sounding record players (like this one) sell for $50 on Amazon.

Anyone who is storing their records properly and has a love of this vintage music format is not blinking at spending $500 on a good record player that doesn't ruin their records. This is a product looking for a market. Not to mention how *annoying* it is to look at this thing running around the record.

I mean, it's a funny novelty. But doesn't solve any problem or do anything better than its competition.

So, not surprising that TFA suggests the product seems to have failed.

If it was 1997, this product would kill at Brookstone and Sharper Image. And at that time, many, many more people would still be holding on to their vinyl collections, not quite ready to junk them (the iPod wouldn't debut until 2001).

Huh. Shark Tanked.

Out of stock on their site, no ETA as to when there will be more of them. No blog posts on the company site. His LinkedIn profile still has him at Pink Donut, and hasn't been updated in a long time.

You'll never lose money(in the short term) going after the douchebag hipster crowd.  Any business that appeals to them will be a surefire hit...for a little while, until they move onto their next temporary fascination.

I don't think my friend would consider letting that thing near his vinyl record collection.

/don't own any vinyl records personally

Decent turntables don't cost $500. Anybody that would use this on their vinyl will be fine with a $49 Fisher Price Plug and Play.
