The penalties for illegal LEGO builds are harsh.

And while not technically illegal, I think anyone who dares to build and use these would be clinically insane.

hubiestubert: NeoCortex42: Official builds have approved techniques that ensure nothing is damaged and connects affirmatively.

Fan sets take liberties with those rules.

There's also the matter that mix and match builds mean less bricks sold.

The .pdf includes rationale for each one.  They're all geared towards "don't break the pieces" and "don't get things so stuck a kid can't separate them".

As if a 7 year-old didn't have teeth...

Wizzbang: I'm building the Lamborghini Sian right now.  I've got one upside down underbody panel where it's practically invisible, the mistake is functionally irrelevant, but I know it's there, it pisses me off, and everything is so locked together that I'm not going to throw away a week of building to fix it.

Yes you are

Aquapope: A soggy rawhide chew toy with jagged edges is worse than a Lego at 2am in bare feet.  Really puts it in perspective, huh?

What you and your partner[s] do is your business but why are you telling us this?

I bet putting a motor, lights and a battery in my lego ecto1 was a no-no too.

The anteanas on top of the car controlled the lights and motor, closing circuits, respectively.

I'm really tempted to get a couple of kits off this site, but they cost damn near as much as full Lego sets:

I modified mine with probably $10 worth of parts from fry's, if that. It was just a normal lego set with some leds, wires, drilled out holes, glue, motor, 9v harness and superglue. The fun part was working out where to put everything, keeping the legobuild the same or changing it in a way that looked more like an ecto1.
