Good

Balloon releases are just pointless littering. Plant flowers or trees or release butterflies or scatter seeds or something

The balloon ban is sweeping the whole country.  Too bad we can't do that with guns

Good.

Next, let's do glitter!

You know, if someone were so inclined a biodegradable ballon with a small payload of seeds over a deforested area might be entertaining, raise funds and awareness and hurt no one but the national helium supply.

The only reason we ban balloon releases at all is the inconvenience involved in killing a human with a helium balloon.

Fill that same balloon with hydrogen, and all of a sudden you're edging into "shall not be infringed" territory.

This is a good thing, and there are some amazingly stupid people in this article who simultaneously recognize that it's bad for the environment but still oppose the idea of stopping THEM from doing it.

FTFA:"Well, I think if it's a good cause, maybe they should allow it [for], like, birthdays or anniversaries or something like that," suggested Jim Skocik.

Um,  I think THAT'S precisely what the law is trying to prevent people from doing, dude.

Good. It's wide area littering combined with an atrocious waste of helium.

They were banned in Florida some years back when I still lived there.  They cause problems for local wildlife and sea life.

Yeah, in the article it there are a few representatives saying, "are we gonna watch every bday party and wedding?!?! What about a little kid who accidentally lets one go?!?!"

It's clearly meant to stop big events from doing large scale balloon releases. But people are gonna be dense.

When my search and rescue team goes on a mission or a training hike, we all try to come back with at least one mylar balloon a piece. It's actually not that hard to find them.

Next, let's do glitter!

I work as a stagehand, and when dance companies- especially childrens dance companies- do a show, the amount of glitter left everywhere is massive. It's impossible to get all of it off of the stage. There's probably fifty years of glitter that's been painted over on our stage floor.

2 hydrogen, 1 oxygen balloon. Tie them together with a long fuse. Light. Let go. Make some sort of stupid 2nd amendment claim. Profit.

Fireworks:  mostly made of materials biodegradable in weeks

Ballons: latex, neoprene, mylar, or other materials that take decades to degrade

Herpes of the craft/makeup world. Oh and I guess strippers, too.

There's now a biodegradable glitter on the market but the website does not say what it is made of or anything of value, really.

Which is why Colorado has banned most private fireworks, and municipal shows tend to be launched over bodies of water.

I bet not. I can see all the little flecks reflecting light and just annoying the hell out of everybody.

I've caught a few cam shows where the chicks were literally dipping themselves into containers of glitter and all I could think is their gynecologist is going to be finding that stuff up there for decades.

Mylar balloons are the worst. They take forever to deflate and float miles offshore on the great lakes, reflecting sunlight like colored beacons.

I wish they'd do that here (Cleveland area). Fat chance, I know, but still. Idiots have been setting them off randomly all day and night for the past several days, scaring the daylights out of my poor dog over and over again.
