Okay, now I just want to watch a Top Gun 4x experience.

But, other than that, he's basically stumbled on to why Dungeons and Dragons has basically become a monstrous pop culture phenomenon.

Yep, and with the tangentially lame jab at Biden at the end, it'll titillate certain Farkers

Oh wow

I happened to know the movie was controversial in certain thoughtful circles, derided as too patriotic and nostalgic, but I decided to take it as it was, perhaps as a way of snubbing these woke drones.

'woke drones', yeah, it's not about fun, it's about stiggin it

No writer stokes more consistent envy among Common Sense editors than Walter Kirn.

CS editors need to expand their reading

The scenes which featured water-one set on a beach, another on a sailboat-seemed less than vital to the story and were maybe just there to exploit the squirting tech.

That's never going to shift from novelty to standard practise until Pornhub gets a hold of it.

Greg from the Prevagen commercials boos your headline subby. He says that many people have told him he has the mind of an elephant. I call BS. At best one person said that and he's confabulating

That commenter proves my theory that I could make a load of money if I developed technology to choke/punch people through the internet. I'm willing to bet that guy was unaffected by Reagan's malicious negligence of the AIDS and crack epidemics.

I hope to save everyone a little time with some choice quotes.

"So, a little late as always, because I like my pop culture to ferment some before I swill it down, I saw the sequel to Top Gun."

"I happened to know the movie was controversial in certain thoughtful circles, derided as too patriotic and nostalgic, but I decided to take it as it was, perhaps as a way of snubbing these woke drones."

"We live in a rule-bound era of high vigilance. It's a time of emergency measures and vast decrees, of curbs on expression, behavior, and even movement. ... [Fun is] regarded as selfish, wasteful, perhaps unsanitary."

"Have fun, get sick. Get others sick. Fun, the other communicable illness."

Sounds like dude was grumpy about taking precautionary public health measures and wanted to go see a movie.  So he did and then wrote an aloof article providing elaborate retroactive justifications for why it was an act of rebellion against tyranny and why it was definitely evidence for his worldview.  This is basically a toddler tantrum at a collegiate reading level.

Oh, I'm sure that jackass was thrilled by the notion gay and black people would be dying off, ignoring or ignorant of the fact they also reached far into straight, white communities.  People who look back on the Reagan era with rose colored glasses after all these years and all that's known are simply hopeless.

I must not have fun. Fun is the time-killer.
Fun is for children, customers, and the help.
I will forget fun. I will take a pass on it.
And while it is going, I will turn a blind eye toward it.
When fun is gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain--I, and my will to win.
Damn, I'm good.

After this last decade or so anything called 'Common Sense' is already suspect without ever reading anything they publish because rwnj's love plastering titles completely opposite to the contents on blogs, policies, and laws

Some writers have so confounded society with government, as to leave little or no distinction between them; whereas they are not only different, but have different origins. Society is produced by our wants, and government by our wickedness; the former promotes our happiness possitively by uniting our affections, the latter negatively by restraining our vices. The one encourages intercourse, the other creates distinctions. The first is a patron, the last a punisher.
Thomas Paine, Common Sense

"But the effect of her being on those around her was incalculably diffusive: for the growing good of the world is partly dependent on unhistoric acts; and that things are not so ill with you and me as they might have been is half owing to the number who lived faithfully a hidden life, and rest in unvisited tombs."

I've noticed that there are many dichotomies in life. Good  vs. Evil. Chaotic Fun vs. Quiet Responsibility.

"The opposite of a true statement is a false statement, but the opposite of one profound truth may be another profound truth."

Wow what a bunch of kill joys. Then again this, Fark, is what you all do for 'fun'.

Today I'm going to hike through the British Columbian wilderness, get inappropriately stoned and play in the grassy fields with some puppies. Gonna be fun. Mmmm... fun.

A story of mine appeared with the article author's in a noir short story collection, and I wound up following him on Twitter. At some point I tweeted a mild joke in reply something he had tweeted irritably about. He blocked me.

This piece of his reads like that.

So you see, the best way to own the libs is to stay home, drink monster, and play CoD.

Just the first few words... this isn't a violent society. We have an over reporting society, but things are much better than when leaded gas clouded our minds, or when sewage flowed in the streets. Occasionally we have highly reported and much agonizing over a shooting somewhere, so perhaps your perception of violence is mediagenic.

Great. Now I have zero interest in watching this movie.

Came here to say this same thing.

It's seems like this thread is full of people who can't stand to see others have fun. I've met this kind before
Y'all drank the haterade.

This wasn't about the author. It was about how fun lifted someone's spirits. How we need more fun in dark times. How fun can be a protest in the face of an oppressive world. How with today's highly structured highly rule bound society, fun can be hard to have because it requires spontaneity.

I can fully support choosing fun over our corporate overlords. Your boss doesn't want you to have fun. Fun spits in the face of a corporate productivivity zeitgeist.

I'm sneezing so no going out for me today but thc edibles, cooking with music, needle felting, and stranger things p2. That's my fun

That's why it's so weird how joylessly written the article is...its scolding, bitter tone is completely at odds with its apparent message.
